Being a southpaw when and if I get down to one rifle for everything which would mostly be for close up shots it will be a Rem 760 carbine in 30-06.

Should I keep a back up under the same condition it would be a tossup between a Rem 742 with a 18 1/2 barrel in 30-06 so the same ammo could be used or the Ruger Lever Carbine 44 Mag, the shortest OAL firearm I have.

I have a few:
2 Marlin 336s in 35 Remington
A Marlin 444SS in 444 Marlin
A Remington 760 pump in 35 Remington
A Remington 760 pump in 30-06.

All work great in the deep woods where I hunt.
The older I get...The better I was.

The thought occured to me that a shotgun makes a great brush gun. Loaded with slugs or better yet if legal a hefty load of buckshot. Fast with a Red Dot or Holo and you don't have to be spot on either :)

46 years ago my folks got me a used model 94 30-30 for my birthday. I used that rifle for many years in the cedar swamps and thick brush of logged off land. When my eyes go so bad I could not use thwe iron sites very well I bought a used model 94 win 32special and a lyman peep site. I used that rifle for a long time also. But today my deep woods cedar swamp still hunting rifle is a Remington Model 7 in 7mm08 with a pentex 2x7 light seeker scope. It handles quick, is easy to carry thru the thick stuff and does what i want it to do.
But that old 94 30-30 has killed more deer for me than any other.
Today I only carry a muzzleloader but I no longer crawl thru the cedar swamps like I once did.
