R-25 Remington
« on: March 21, 2010, 04:22:33 PM »
I have a friend the just bought an R-25. We went out and shot it this weekend. Shot a box of Winchester 150 soft points and a 5 round group of Federal 150 soft points. They both shot 1 1/4 groups at 100 yards. The trigger is heavy and gritty. Other that that, it was fine. I never see anything about them on any site I go to.

Then ya must not have hung around here much cuz I've seen several discussions on them. MarkC picked up one in .243 and has made several posts about it. In fact look on the Hunting in Texas or Hunting Exotics forum either or both and you can see the super nice axis buck he took with it last Tuesday I think it was.

There is also one I posted where I got a couple axis with  an R25 in 308.  Pics of the rifle too, think its in hunting in Texas as well. I like my R 25 but I wish I liked it 3 pounds less.

thats the biggest problme in my opinion with the ar10 platform. I hauled one around last deer season. Even my 16 inch dpms got to be like carrying around a bucket of lead after a while. Sure does shoot though!

From everything I've read, the R-25 is really a DPMS Panther only with camo finish.
Bushmaster, DPMS and Remington are now all part of the same company.
If you were to have any issues with your R-25, the firearm would really be sent back to DPMS.
I don't own either, but I'm saving for a Panther in either 260Rem or 6.5Creed.
Every article and forum I've been to, rave about the quality/accuracy/performance of these rifles.  Especially when price is considered.
Again, the R-25 and Panther are the same rifle.  The DPMS will be a bit cheaper.  Remington charges a premium for the name.
Now on the down side.  If you wanted a DPMS, and they didn't have your rifle on hand, you could be looking at 6months or more to get one once ordered.
I want a 6.5, and they were having issues with the 260 and Creed..  They stopped production on them to figure things out.  They recently started production again on the 6.5s(a few months back)...  Issues were only on the 6.5mm rounds.  Some ammo not seating properly in the .308 magazine.  cartridges not feeding or seating properly/reliably in the chamber.  All other chamberings from what I've read have been very reliable.  Barrels offered in the 260 version are 24", 20", and 18".  The 24 for competition shooting, the 20 for both comp and hunting, and the 18 for hunting. The 18" hunter only weighs 8lbs. And is accurate enough for me out to 600yds.  But a 24" chrome lined fluted bull barrel sounds appealing too.  Do some research on these if interested.  I know I am.
They also offer an adjustable trigger upgrade.(yes, trigger can be heavy)  You may be able to find a .308 with adjustable trigger out there somewhere.
