Which Bushnell 2x6 scope?
« on: November 16, 2009, 04:11:48 PM »
I've read some good things about the Bushnell 2-6x scopes for use on a Super Blackhawk .44Mag for hunting.  What is the big difference between the Elite 3200 and the Trophy?

I don't mind spending the money on the Elite if the glass is that much better.

I recently bought a Bushnell Trophy 2-6X for my TC Bee project and immediately found a Burris 1.5-4X afterward at a giveaway price. The TC will be coated in matte silver Duracoat and the Burris silver matches. The Trophy is matte black but otherwise I would have kept it. Optically I would have been just as happy with the Bushnell Trophy. It seemed plenty clear out to 150 yds. I had researched the Trophy and couldn't find any issues for its price range. I have not had the chance to compare it to a 3200 but the Trophy is a good scope for its price. It is listed in the classifieds.

I've owned and shot both for many years. Quite honestly to me the difference is price alone. I just can't see where the Trophy is in any way inferior to the Elite and I've had them with the B&L and Bushnell name both on them. They are about the brightest and clearest handgun scopes going.

With either I can easily see the bullet holes at 100 yards after firing them. That's not always doable with rifle scopes of higher magnification but these Bushnell scopes at that bright and clear.

I have had half a dozen Elite 3200 scopes in service for up to 6 years each on recoilers as heavy as the .375 JDJ with no problems. They're clear, and easy to change adjustments for distance. The 3200's have a rainguard coating that the Trophys do not have, and may have a very slightly longer range of eye relief, but neither contributes much to useability IMO.

Friends I trust have been using the Trophy version for years longer than me, and have had no problems with them. My next Bushnell will probably be a Trophy 2-6X.

It's a good thing they're tough, because the Bushnell "Warranty" is a sham, in my experience. BUT, they do offer features that a 4X Leupold does not, at a similar weight and size.

The 3200 has rain guard coating. The legend does not.

I have an older model Trophy 2-6x scope on my Ruger SRH and never had a problem or issue with it. I would expect that maybe the 3200 might have better glass, not that I think the Trophy was bad at all.

goalie,

I got a Trophy for my 44 mag Contender and I love it.  Best handgun scope I've ever used.  Graybeard is right about their clarity.  I plan on getting at least a few more to replace the scopes I have on other guns and Contender barrels.

Best,

Wolfgang

Bushnell Trophy 2-6X. I've one for years on a SRH 44 with hot loads. No problems!

I'm onboard with the other guys. 2 x 6 Trophy is a great scope at a fair price.

Ditto...I have 2 of the Trophy scopes.  One on a 308 Encore and the other on a 7-30 Waters Contender.  Both are great!  They hold their zero and are bright enough for all of my hunting applications.

At one time i had six Contenders. Four of then wore Trophies. One a Simmonds and one a Weaver. I hated the Simmons and was not real happy with the Weaver. Come to think of it i threw the Simmons in the trash and  put a Bushnell red dot on that one. Graybeard is right. They, the trophies are the brightest clearest scope in that price range.

Well, I got a Leupold FXII 2x for the same price, so I am going to try that first.  Hopefully the 20mm objective won't be too much of an issue hunting early and late.

It was too good of a deal to pass up.  I'm going to put it on with a Leupold one-piece double dovetail mount.

Midway has the trophy on clearance for about $152 including S&H right now.

I'm thinking about picking one up, the only question I have is how well can it stand pretty heavy recoil?  (44 mag/S&W 460/S&W 500)

Worked for me on .44 magnum, .454 Casull, .480 Ruger and .358 JDJ.

Alright that's what I wanted to hear!  I know the 454 casull can kick pretty decent.  I assume with a sturdy base a good set of rings it should be a fine scope.

I looked at both the trophy and the elite, didn't really see a difference in the glass, saw the difference in the price and went with the trophy.  It has been a good scope.  I have had over 1800ft-lbs of energy coming out of the barrel of my .454 on many occasions, and the trophy still hits what I'm shootin at.  Can't complain too much about that.

I just put a 2-6 Trophy on my 44 mag G2 and so far so good. I really like the setup.
