Met the new lease holder yesterday.
« on: November 29, 2009, 06:45:20 PM »
For many years we could hunt the whole hill on my side of the road.  Well a few years ago the farmer sold his field on the west side of me and the owner posted it.  Three years ago the neighbor to the east and south of me sold a hunting lease to his property and the lessee posted it.  Well with both sides and the back of me posted I decided if they didn't want me hunting on their plots then I didn't want all their hunters wondering over on mine, so I posted it, with signs saying "NO Hunting  without written permission".  I wasn't saying never but I wanted to know who was going to be on the land and where they would be.

So one friend and I hunt the 87 acres I own.  He gave me a call yesterday that the lessee was shooting deer on my land.  I hopped on the tractor and went into the woods and sure enough there he was gutting his kill about 25 yards on my side of the property line.  My friend said he saw the deer cross from west to east and this guy shot it before it got over the line to his posted lease.

I was irate this guy has never even bothered to stop and say hello in the 3 years he has had the lease, he just parks on the road and wonders off into the woods.  I was tempted to call the law and charge him with trespass.  I passed on a shot that was on his side of the line just the morning before.  I told him if he was tracking a wounded one and it came over on my property "ok" but to shoot the deer on my side of the line was just plain idiotic.  If I find it happening again I will notify the law and have him arrested.  For 25 years on one seemed to find it necessary to post this hill, and he was the one who brought it to a head.  He answer was that he paid a lot for the lease and didn't want non payers on it.  I told him I pay a lot more for taxes than he pays for his lease and what was good for the goose etc.

I guess posting just doesn't mean anything to some people, unless of course it's there posted signs that are being ignored.
I can't control my day, but I can control my attitude.

Personal opinion is a good thing, and everyone is entitled to one.  The hard part is separating informed opinion from someone who is just blowing hot air....
