Here in Alaska we have Advisory Committees that work with the game board. These committees are made up of locally elected members to represent the community. I have been on the Fairbanks Advisory committee several years, off and on. We review all proposals for change to hunting and fishing regulations, and make recommendations to the game board on how to handle the proposals. If the local people have a problem pertaining to hunting and fishing regs they can bring it to the Advisory Committee and we can work for a resolution. We hold our elections in December, and the local citizenry comes to the meeting and votes for representatives for their community.
Earlier this month an environmental group for biodiversity got together and stacked the vote. They voted in members of their group who are not hunters or fishermen. This is going to create a serious problem, and we in Fairbanks are wondering how the folks in Anchorage are going to handle this problem.
