Shotgun barrel lock up
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:31:35 AM »
I am pretty sure I know the answer. But before I embarrass myself, I wanted to ask.

I went to a gun shop yesterday. They had a 28 gage barreled Handi. When I opened it, it was very tight. When I closed it up, the thumb release did not raise completely ??? It did raise enough where there was slight play in the button. But it did not raise as high as it did while open. Not sure if the barrel was a factory fit. This shop has many used guns on consignment.

So I checked my Handi's and they all come all the way up to where they are when barrel is open.

Do I warn them, or is it just a the character of this gun?

The lever should raise all the way when it's opened.
When it's closed it should have some play in it.

If the lever is all the way up with the barrel closed that usually means the barrel is loose. :-\

 Thanks Spanky

I am going back there this morning. They have a new Handi in a .357 mag. for $239.  I am thinking Merry Christmas to me ;) Now that I have looked at mine. I will look at it again. I didnt think to compare it to the .357 there  ::)
