Belleville man hears big racket; can't believe what he finds in his kitchenKSDK, found at bnd.com
Jan. 26, 2010Mark Page couldn't believe what he found in the kitchen of his Belleville home Saturday morning.
"It was apparent I was going to encounter something because of all the racket," said Page.
He and his wife, Cassia were awakened by the sound of breaking glass and hooves running across the first floor of their two-level home. Mark walked down the steps and found a ten-to-twelve point buck in the kitchen.
"He was standing right here, with his head in the sink," said Page.
The Pages live at the intersection of East C and North Oak. Their house is surrounded by other homes, and he said there is no wooded area nearby.
Page said the deer apparently entered through a dining room window, injuring itself in the process. Page said the animal made its way into the kitchen, which is when Page discovered it.
"I looked at him for seriously not even a fraction of a second," said Page, "and I ran back upstairs because I don't mess with deers."
He never saw the animal again. But there's no question which direction the interior tour took. A trail of blood drops heads back into the kitchen, through the dining room, and into the living room. There's a smear of blood in two corners of the room, as if the animal was doing all it could to escape.
Eventually it found its way back outside by crashing through another window.
"The top piece of glass looks like it was ripped out first," said Page. "And then down below the main pane of glass was broke through as well, so it looks like he tried multiple times to get out."
Page said they don't know what happened to the deer. He said police used dogs to track the injured animal, but never found it.
