If you handload I'd get a .44 Mag barrel and assemble lighter loads.  A 200 to 220 grain bullet at 1100 fps is plenty for a 100 yard deer with pretty low recoil.   That way as she grows she can use the same barrel with heavier loads.  Also easier to find and to sell later.

If you have or want a 38-55...get it.  It is a great old cartridge that in a TC can be loaded to 375 Winchester levels or to the mildest 38-55 loads.  I have a 38-55 and a 375 Winchester.

My 10yr old grandaughter is getting the wanto's and we're looking at shootin' 357mags out of my 357Max Contender carbine.  We can start with 38's and go up from there.  A 357mag with the right bullet out of a 20" closed breech barrel will put the smack down on any deer at a reasonable range.

300 whisper.  Its a necked up 223 rem cartridge, (or 221 fireball).  I shoot 150 grain nosler ballistic tips that expand nice under lower velocity.  I have buddy that loads mine to 2200 feet per second.  I think without going and looking for the loading info its around 16.5 grains of H110 powder.  Same ballistics about as a 30-30 out to 150 yards but ,,,,,now the good part,,,,,almost zero recoil and very little noise.  Loaded with 220 sierra matchkings and subsonic 1000 feet per second, you get a deadly accurate load that makes as much noise as a 22 short.  I use it for head shooting suburban deer.  One shot and they fall down.  A guy raking his leaves 200 yards away would not hear the shot.  I do shoot out of tree stands.
