Tested out 45-70 and Paper patching.
#1 6- 400gr ....51.5gr H322....1card 1867,1908, 1868, 1880, 1861
#2 5-400gr ....52gr H322....1card 1932, 1907, 1923, 1908, 1937
#3 5-360gr ....52.5gr H322....2cards 1968, 1954, 1966, 1956, 1959
#4 5-360gr ....51.5gr H4198....1card 2164, 2163, 2165, 2175, 2155
Started with extra #1 at 50 to put sights on paper...had bases for scope on rifle and had to adjust rear sight down front bead just visible above them...not ideal set up but was just looking for some idea if there was some potential...
Then shot group #3, #4, #1, #2 at 100yrds...
The paper patches were confetti and cards( milk carton) came apart in layers.
Shot all 5 in group then would run a patch down barrel no signs of any fouling other then a little burnt powder.
Wind was out and lifting bottom of sheet of cardboard I had target stapled to tried to shoot when it was down.
Very pleased with the results for first time with rifle and paper patches. will do some more testing once I have scope picked out for rifle and my order of 360 and 300gr bullets comes in.
The 400 gr bullet were plinkers from PR and the 360 was their extreme hollow point.
Have pictures of targets will try to post latter., need to find a place to load them at.

Just curious, were you using a scope or open sights. Groups look great for hunting and I am surprized the PB custom's worked for patching with, but hey if they work good job.

I usually order a straight sided PP bullet from Liberty Shooting Supplies that come 50 to a box.

I hadn't tried using smokeless with the paper patching yet but since I have some XMP 5744 for all my smokeless lubed bullets I'm gonna give it a try. :-)

I was using open sights. The scope bases were on, lowered rear sight till just bead was visible with minute amount of the post. Was still shooting way high...all loads were smokeless.
I had read several times about boat tails being very hard to use in this caliber.....but every rifle is different and the only way to know for sure is to try . Loads are in first post.
