Update on my Parrot Field Rifle
« on: December 12, 2009, 01:37:49 PM »
As I mentioned on another post, I've built a removable sight rail for my Parrott.  I finally got it sighted in, and at 75 yards it is shooting 5" groups with 475 grains of ffg Diamondback and bullets from Victor3's mold (they weigh between 7.6 and 8.0 ounces).  The group is centered on the bullseye and it has proven to be repeatable.

I'll try to post a picture of the finished rail with scope and also a picture of one of the punctured targets.  By the way, it is shooting all the way through (across the grain) a round bale of hay.  The holes through the target are perfectly round like wadcutters and the hole through the hale bale is also nearly perfect.

I'm very happy with the way it ended up.

Gary, I didn't get it from DOM :-\.

This is a rifled 30mm barrel.  I actually had the machine work done locally and built the carriage myself.  I've heard from several folks that DOM does do good work though...

 NS,

Glad it worked out for you (because now I know I can make another similar mould for my 30mm bbl and get good results ;D).

If you've been able to recover a fired slug, please post pics.

I don't think many here (M&T excluded, of course) have been able to get better than 5" at 75 yds with their cannons. It wasn't a one shot group, was it? :)

It was a three shot group.  Two of the three were touching and the center of number three was 5" away from the center of number one.  I have been able to recover some projectiles and will post pictures of them also.
