What Calibers for Contender Carbine?
« on: December 07, 2009, 04:00:23 PM »
Does anybody have a list of factory calibers that were available for the Contender Carbine?  I'd like to know the calibers for all barrel lengths from 16 1/4" and up.

There are several places you may purchase barrels. I purchased a 30/40 Krag barrel for a G2 this spring from MGM. The gun shoots very well, better then needed for hunting deer and is easy to carry, which is what I wanted.

I had a 21" 7 X 31. It was a sweet shooter, my wife liked it a lot. I liked the 21" barrel because you could grab the rifle by the grip and carry it muzzle down at your side as if it was a pistol.

Since no one bothered to answer the OP's question I'll try.  The first link is to current offerings for Contender rifles.

The second link is for all chamberis offered by the Custom Shop, and includes twist rates if you wanted that information.

Thanks for the links, Lone Star.

Does anyone know of links for a chart showing all past carbine chamberings and barrel lengths?

To the best of my knowledge such a chart doesn't exist, or if it does I've never came across it on-line.   Ed Kirkpatrick or Ron Sable would have it if anybody does.

About the only way it could be done now (especially for the pre G2 carbine barrels) is to glean the information from all of the TC catalogs printed over the years.    Easy enough question to ask but one that would take considerable work to answer even with a large collection of catalogs.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I thought we used to have an INCREDIBLE list of cartidges for the Contenders listed on here somewhere?  If I remember correctly there was something like 500 different chamberings.

Actually, the factory chamberings(cataloged) for carbine barrels isn't a terribly long list.  Nothing like the list for pistol barrels.  Of course there were lots of special runs and TCA offerings that don't show in the catalogs.

Just a guess, but from your handle I would guess it will be for groundhogs. If so, my all time favorite round for the Contender carbine is the .17 AH. Mine likes the 19 gr. Calhoon bullets and shoots point blank to about 285 yrds. or 290 yrds. It only uses 10.4 grs. of powder and with the Calhoon bullet It seem to kill them so fast that I very seldom get the tail screw.
