candidates that run on "fighting corruption"?
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:30:11 PM »
How many candidates have run on a platform of fighting corruption specifically and named the corruption? Did Sarah? Have any others and did they win or lose. Could a candidate survive that campaign? Any national level will do. Just wondered. eddiegjr

That was part of Sarah Palins platform.  She also ran on the issues of fighting Big Oil, Getting something going on a Gas Pipeline, and cutting state government spending.

She fought Big Oil and won.  She got AGIA (Gas Pipeline) started, but due to lack of oversight it is beginning to fizzle.  She got rid of the Governors Chef at the Governor's Mansion in Juneau, saying her daughters needed to learn how to cook themselves.  She got rid of the Chauffeur, saying she can drive herself.  She cut the housekeeping staff, saying her kids can make their own beds.  She got rid of the Governors private jet, it was too costly to operate and maintain.  Flying commercially was easier and faster, less coordination needed, and a whole lot less expensive. Sarah also got predator Control started, that showed she listened and cared for the people of the state.

As far as fighting corruption only, that platform alone would not get far alone.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Let's take the classic ANTI ABORTION candidate for an example. Pseudo Conservatives will not vote for a candidate that is FOR abortion.
I love it when they ask the candidate: "Are you pro life", the candidate answers yes,  and then the Pseudo Conservative broadly grins, squares his shoulders and marches defiantly into the voting booth proclaiming "I will not vote for ANYONE whom is not pro life". ::)
The candidate wins, and does ZERO toward stopping abortion. He never intended to in the first place.
It never occurs to the Pseudo Conservative to ask the most important question of: If I vote for you and you win, what are you going to do about stopping abortion? He just wants to FEEL GOOD about whom he voted for. Happens every election.

For 99.9% of politicians they just try to find a gimick. Some kind of schtik that some ad exec on Madison Ave. dreams up and goes with that. The hawk, the dove, the anti this, that and the other thing. You get the idea. They have to figure a way to set themselves apart from the next guy to get the vote. Too many people can't seem to see past that slick packaging to get to the real meat of the candidate. Paying attention to what the right hand is doing instead of the left. We can see what that has wrought.

steve y, you said it, "real meat". There is no real meat with them, it is all slight of hand. eddiegjr
