Kimber tritum front sight

I have ordered two front sight from brownells to replace my black front sigh on my custom target.

Neither would fit into the dovetail, too small.

Where can I find a front sight for low light.  I want to keep my rear adjustable.

I ordered from brownells at Guncraft in Ruskin.  My brother is  a gunsmith.  The problem I have my front sight dovetail is much more beefy than the ones I have received when I ordered.

I looked at Kimber.  All I need is the front sight.  I don't want to change my back sight.  The ones a t kimber look much smaller.  I will call kimber to see if I can get one. 

I was thinking of checking with a sight manufacturer.  I need some names.  Novak was one I ordered.  It had the front sight with pin; however, not as large as mine.

Kimber uses a proprietary dovetail cut for thieir sights.   You can purchase one from Kimber, but you can also purchase from other manufacturers as long as they say its for a Kimber.   Otherwise you have to go the gunsmith route and have them cut the dovetail to fit the site you purchase.   The Kimber Meprolite tritium sites are very good.

I measured my dovetail.  It was .3+.  The front sight is larger than the one I ordered out of Brownells which was for a Kimber.  They must have several cuts on different slides.  Both of the ones I received were way too small.

I have an e-mail into novak.  I see kimber sights;however, not specs as to size.

Several years ago I bought a fiber optic front sight for my Custom Target. I specified for the Kimber sight cut, no problems.
You have to specify that it is for the target sighted pistol.

Call Kimber, they will give you the information you need.  That's what I did.  In my case, I wanted to make cuts for the Kimber Meprolite sights in a slide that had no dovetail cuts.   Kimber gave me all the specs.

I have also installed a Dawson Fiber optic front sight in a Kimber Gold Match, and TruGlo TFO fixed sigths in a Kimber Custom II.   In both cases I ordered the sights for Kimbers, and they fit just fine.

As I recall, the cuts for the fixed sight and target sight guns are different.

I called Kimber, and I now have a sight on order.  I am hopeful it will work.

     In the future for 1911 sights and other parts you might try Fusionfirearms.com  Bob Serva who used to run Dan Wesson now has that parts set up and I have had good service from him/them.   HTH.   Jim

Received sight from kimber.  Dovetail too small.  I called Kimber to get authorization to send back.  The customer service suggested my front sight had been altered.  I told him the back sight is a kimber.  I don't think the front has been altered.  My brother is a gun smith.  He doesn't think it has been altered.  If it has, then the gunsmith is terrific.  I can't tell it is not factory.

Kimber rep said Kimber never pinned the front sight.  He said they have kept the same dove tail from the beginning.  Does nayone have a Kimber classic target with .180 front blade and adjustable rear.  Is the front sight pinned?

My next step is to have my brother make me a front sight and send it to metrplex for the tritum insert.

Nope, no pinned sights here. I have never seen a pinned front sight on a Kimber.

I did some research on this a year or so ago. I didn't call Kimber but everyone told me that no matter what sight I ordered the dove tail had to be fitted by a gun smith, so you guys are saying there is a mail order sight that will work? I think I was looking into an adjustable rear sight, but was told  that I would have to replace the front sight as well so that it would be a working matched pair. Am I wrong or what please?

I don't think so.  The front sight can be order separate as can be a back sight.
