4 Season Tent Recommendations
« on: September 13, 2009, 12:24:02 PM »
The wife and I love camping. I've been trying to convince her for some time that we needed a 4 season tent, not for snow but for thunderstorms here in Alabama. Well after Friday night about 3:30 in the morning down on the Alabama gulf coast when a thunderstorm with at least 50 mph winds destroyed our tent she's all ready now. She spent the rest of the night in the Tahoe while I sat on a picnic table under a lean to out of the rain and watched the show. I will only pay just so much for a tent so I'm looking at the Timberline Outfitter 4 and a tent on Ebay called The South Col. We want a 3 or 4 person, 4 season tent. Anyone with any experience on these tents or recommendations on others ? All input will be appreciated.

I talked to a guy who had a Kodiak Canvas flex bow he got from Cabelas. Said it was a great tent, hold up well in bad weather. I think his was 10 x 10.

A lot or research and reading reviews and I'm about 99% decided on the Timberline Outfitter 4. Not too small, not too big, very tough with great reviews and the price is something I can handle for something I'll use maybe a half dozen times a year.

I'll vote for the Timberline 4 also.  I have the T-2 and it is pretty snug for more than one person.  A friend had the T-4 and, while it is a bit heavier, it gave a lot more room.  Mine is marginal for winter camping, a snow load bows it down pretty far.  However, I have had it since 1979 and it is still going strong (although I have had to water proof the floor and fly several times).  Use a small tarp or sheet of plastic under the floor for maximum life span!

The issue I have with 4 season tents is they don't breath. With two adults in one in the morning you will have ice and frost all over the inside of the tent from your breath. Un less you are camping in below 0 weather I have had much better with a good 3 season.
