45-70 Scope question

Hope you don't mind a small hijack...

I just picked up a 45-70 synthetic stock too.  Question is does an old Leupold M8 3X have enough eye relief for the 45-70?  Anyone tried this scope on the 45/70?

It should be fine.  I'd like to have a couple of them myself.

WELCOME Kite,
That was the very first LEUPOLD I bought! Now I have a couple M8 scopes. YES as Swampy said, they will be fine.

I have the same scope on my maxi.

That is the same scope I just put on my 45/70. My gun came with a recoil pad that made the length of pull about a 1/2'' longer though.Fits me perfect as I am tall and lanky. I will tell ya when I rechamber it if it gives me Magnum eye ;D Mind you mine is a wood stock, I do not know if they are heavier compared to a syn one?
I used to have two Weatherby Vang and the Syn Stock was a 1/4lb more both in 7mm 08. I only kept the Wood one as the Syn was that ugly green colour lol. Ah the late 80s/early90s when syn Stocks were first being put on factory guns.

IIRC, the wood stock set weighs 5oz more than the syn stock, all stock weights are listed in the FAQs along with lots of other little tidbits most folks don't know.  ;D

My ol' eyes can't focus fore and aft enough to work iron sights much anymore.

Thought about a ring or fire sights.  But that little 3X is a dandy scope and heck for stout if I can avoid the scaring up my eyebrow while mounted up on the 45/70!  Sounds like I should give it a shot, so to speak...

The first highpower round my son in law ever shot was from my daughters 7mm08. Got a classic cut right above the eyebrow. We all laughed and told him that now he had a badge to prove he was a westerner, even if he did stand on the wrong side of the gate when he closed it.
