Got it home -cleaning question
« on: December 15, 2009, 01:41:46 PM »
Ok here goes,I got the deerstalker home and took the barrel off and put some hoppes down the barrel in a spray just to see if it would run out the screw hole in the drum.Nothing came out and the nipple is still in though, but I thought cleaner may come out the hole in the side of the drum where I removed the screw.I will take the nipple out too but I am limited so far in jags and such till tommorrow.I stuck a pipe cleaner in from the side and it didn't get anything flowing. It is all soaking now.Barrel looks open all the way down, I do have an air compressor here. :o

Oh well at least I'm not completely crazy, got a better light and took a look and I have a copper bullet of some sort in the barrel already. Some kid or adult must have dropped a bullet in it in the rack at sometime. My co-worker is gonna bring in his bullet puller tommorrow and see how it works. ;D Otherwise I will take it to the store.

I hope it isn't loaded.

I don't think so it came from the store off the rack and I can get a pipe cleaner through the hole in the drum .With the drum screw and the nipple out I stuck the cleaner in and out and sprayed and didn't really get anything like powder out of that end anyway. We wont put a cap on it we'll just try to pull the bullet to see if I can keep from going back to the store.

Any chance it is a cartridge in there and not a bullet? That would be a poor assumption to make if it were. Bullets aren't as common as cartridges in most stores. good luck

I'm guessing some jacka$$ loaded a sabot or powerbelt in it just to see if it would go or to show someone how.
If/when you get the bullet out, look for the plastic cup!

You said you got air, if ya have a rubber nossle, put the nip back on, point it in a safe direction and see if ya can blow it out. Keep it safe, it might come out with significant velocity.

Ha Ha we tried air ,the ramrod with screw attachment my co-worker had and no go.Took it to the store and gunsmith couldn't do it either,he even tried drilling it out with a long bit, this has a 24'' barrel. He said it seemed like solid copper because no one could get a screw started in it.Also it looked to me like it had marks on the breech plug of this gun that is not to be removed. It looked like someone had a crescent or something on it that slipped off like they were trying to get it out.I showed it to him and he agreed,we thought maybe someone at the store might have known it was in there. After he tried a little he said come here and gave me a new barrel off the last one in the rack and put mine on that one and said he would send that one back to the factory or whatever the manager wanted to do.So I am a little closer to getting somewhere.

If you ever run your own (dryball), Just pull the nipple and you can usually sprinkle enough powder in there to shoot it out.

Note: A ball, saybo, powerbelt or the like Must Always be bottomed out in the barrel (right on top of the powder) to prevent a ring, bulge, or burst.

You did good taking it back to the store. Could have been a cartridge in there like Empty Quiver said.

Would have been kind of neat to see what it was, that's for sure.Might have been a good thing we didn't have any caps or powder to try to blow it out.
