Are all Sako rifles free floated?
« on: October 24, 2003, 11:55:54 AM »
I have an older Sako 308 rifle . . . beautiful gun, that I just purchased from a good friend.  I was shining it up and went to run my silicon cloth down the barrel (between barrel and forend) when I came to an obstruction.  In only one spot about 4" from the tip of the forend.  I then started about 1/2" below that point and everything was clear again.  Were Sako rifles ever pressure pointed or anything?  I guess any others that I have ever seen were always freefloated. :?

Mine had a pressure point on the forend which I removed when I pillar bedded the action and glass bedded the action.  I went from a 3 shot 1 1/4" group and the 4th shot going "wild" due to heat expansion against the pressure point, to a 5 shot sub MOA after the bedding!  I have a Sako AV laminated stock chambered to 270win.

Ringo, about how old is your rifle.  I have a new Sako 75 Hunter SS/walnut and it has a free floated barrel.

I bought it used approximately 8 years ago, so I guess it would be about 10 years old.  Serial # is 653xxx.  Once I free-floated the barrel and glassed the action it became a tack-driver.  I got carried away and jewelled the bolt and the follower, I was bored with too much time on my hands!
