Not trying to get in a p***ing match but could you please cite which statistics you refer to in the above statement?
I have treated patients for over 25 years and have seen many cases of oral cancer that needed referral to the surgeons for treatment. Most of the oral cancers were from pipe and cigar smokers and hard liquor drinkers.
After the surgeons got through with their work the individuals were minus their tongue, teeth, jaw or parts of their face. If they did live a longer life then it was in mutilated form because the cancer could be cut out.
I doubt the enjoyment of their pipe smoking could make up for the pain, suffering and expense of having their mouths and/or faces chopped up.
