Zouve question
« on: May 17, 2010, 12:57:15 PM »
I just put a 58 cal on lay away. It is made by Zoli and certainly follows the Zouve lines.

Seems of good quality. Any thoughts?

Other than my spelling ofcourse

I just got my Zoli Zouave musket at a gun show last year and I love it. I've heard nothing but good about the zoli zouave rifles. mine likes hornady .570 round balls with 45 gr FFF black powder. Also shoots 525 gr minis form Dixie gun works extremely well with 60 grains of FFF BP.  I plan on taking it hunting this year. Enjoy your new musket and keep me posted on how she shoots. ;D

I have had one for years.
Mine shoots the big boys. 525 grain Buffalo bore slugs.  It will not regulate with the round ball with the sights except with lighter loads and the is a point where a 30 or 35 grain equivalant charge of Pyrodex will not go off, when the ball is covering the flash hole.
I can save you some time and do not try to shoot the plastic sabot out of the gun.  They too do not work.  i thought a 300 grain jackets 454 slug in the sabot with 56 grains of Pyrodex RS would = a 45-70 or there abouts.  Could not get the sabots to stabalize.  but will send you 4 or 5 is you want to try.
Other than that I like it and hope to take it bear hunting in NC one of these days.
Mine came with a few goodies in the stock like a worm and a #10 nipple.  So far I have been using the musket caps.

Had a neighbor that lived across the street a few years back and he had one. He came over one day and wanted me to take him out and show him how to shoot it. He had gotten his from his Dad's estate, it was an older Zoli. We shot both roundies and minies. I was imprest with the accuracy of that gun. It just hit whatever we were aiming at...ranges varied from a close 10 yards to a long 90+yrds (I paced it off over uneven ground and added a little bit for good measure).

I was impressed.

I have one, I shoot patched round balls.
It shot high. I had to file off the front sight. I soldered on a new sight of silver, made from a ring I bought in Mexico.
Plus, the bright silver sight is better for hunting, makes a contrast against the dark hide of a deer or pig.
Aim small don't miss.
