Happy Thanksgiving Everybody
« on: November 25, 2009, 11:41:24 AM »
I just wanted to take a minute to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving.

Y'all let us know how your day went, and tell us what was for dinner. Now, for some of you out there that don't know it, in the South, Dinner means LUNCH and Supper is eaten in the evening sometime after 6:00. ;)

Either way, let us know all about your day. Did you stick to tradition? What is your tradition? This could get fun... ;D

See y'all soon.

And to you, Sir. And all here.

Just me, my bride of almost 20 years, and the dog.  Things are tight for us, both out of work.  But, we have a roof over us, food on the table, so we are better off than many.  We have a turkey breast and a thigh brining in the fridge now.  I made some white bread and we cubed up a loaf of that for dressing (last year we did a cornbread dressing for me, this year we do a white bread one for her), have some sweet potatos, and some yukon golds for mashed.  Green beans.
So, not a huge spread, but have the important tastes.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone here.  My wife and I are going to my aunt and uncle's for supper.  Knowing my uncle, there will be some deer roast on the table.

I wanted to add some things I am thankful for:

I am thankful that Jesus Christ gave his life for our sins.
I am thankful for my family.
I am thankful for my career as a doctor.
I am thankful that I am southern!

joe, that sounds like a mighty fine spread to me. I, too am among the ranks of the unemployed (more than a year now) but I am in college full-time. I know what it's like to have slim pickins.

My family has always insisted on the very traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. Forty or fifty people gathering in one house for a whole day and about half come back for supper that night. Everybody that had anything to do with cooking would get little sleep the night before (if any at all), trying to ensure everything was perfect for the day of days. Thanksgiving was my dad's favorite Holiday, even more than Christmas. He passed away in September of last year.

We did the traditional thing last year but it just wasn't the same without him. So this year we did the unthinkable. We made reservations at a local B&B Inn (it's over 100 years old) famous for its country cooking, but especially famous for its Holiday buffet meals. The food was absolutely to die for, and the atmosphere was wonderfully nostalgic. This is a 110 year old 3-story Victorian mansion with a veranda extending 25 feet from the main house. Accurate with period decor, it was started in 1897 & completed in 1899 by a local who owned the biggest lumber mill in the area. (I'll see if I can get a picture or two on here)

All of the ones who cook every year got together and decided they didn't want to cook this year, hence the dining out. As good as the food was, and as beautiful as the Inn is, the two things that make it Thanksgiving (to me) were  absent. Daddy not being there was a huge blow to the family tradition. That's to be somewhat expected. But after we ate, the family(ies) went their separate ways, taking away another huge part of the tradition of spending time together and getting caught up on life's happenings with each other since last year. Playing with the children and inevitably relating some part of the family history to them was something I always look forward to, but it didn't happen this year. It was a good day but I missed these two things terribly.  :-\

Well, we went to my aunt and uncle's place.  Uncle was on cloud nine.  He got him a 150 lbs buck yesterday morning.  Says it is the biggest deer he has ever killed.  We had turkey, both baked and fried, baked ham, roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet corn, homemade rolls and several others.  I also had some sweet potatoe pie.

After eating, some of the guys sat around the table, drinking coffee, and talking about hunting, fishing, politics, and history.  Some of the women got around the piano and played and sang some southern gospel music.

Hey KB21, Welcome to the forum. Your Thanksgiving day would have been worth it all just to see the look on your uncle's face when he got that deer.  ;D
Sounds like a really good time was had by all.
Thanks for sharing your story.

                       Southern by Grace,

Howdy, I'm JacktheKnife from Texas and I remember you on the Stormfront forum.
You were getting your SKS tuned up and I wonder if she is shooting good.
At the time I had been deliberately falsely arrested and assaulted in jail by the jailers,
jumped from behind for no reason, and my spine crushed.
Being a disabled coma patient anyway,
I spent a year writing a letter and getting it sent out to the city,
 the district attorney, Texas rangers,
attorney general in Austin and the Houston office of the FBI.
The chief of police quit the next day took his retirement money and ran like a whipped dog.
The 5-6 short fat cowardly cops who conspired to kill me and settled for attempting to paralize me,
are going to the pen for conspiracy, ie. 99.5 years and it does make me feel real good.
I put them there and it was easy because they were all stupid and cowards.
A Sheriff deputy said to a Ranger:
"Lt. Boone is a coward and Jack's not"

Anyway, I was involved with all that and was reluctant to make friends
or hang out with anybody.
The trial hasn't happened yet but it will...
My spine is crushed and the old damage from the degenerative disc disease, bone spurs
 and arthritis was compounded vastly.
I am pissed but I feel better in that the 5-6 short fat cops from two!
 police departments are basically dead.
They will die in the pen and be buried out back in the prison burying ground,
 just forgotten pieces of meat.
And they were all jews.
I had been studying German about a year and am 25% German blood.
I have no criminal record and have never been arrested.
I don't lie or steal and was a music major at U. T. Austin.

They messed with the wrong man didn't they?

                             Luck & Later...

Sorry Jack, but I'm afraid you have the wrong man... and the wrong forum.
I've never been in the Stormfront forum that I am aware of, so I have no idea what you're talking about.
Glad your situation turned out for the better. Hope you find your guy.

Thanks for stopping by,

Thank you.  There were a fair number of battle flags and most of them people would never think of as CSA. That one was in Missouri.  Photo taken at Camden Point, MO.  Flies over the graves of 6 Confederate soldiers that were killed in the Battle of Camden Point, July 1964.  One Lt & 5 Pvts.  You can read one account here: Guerrillas In Missouri

And browse this page: various photos for the individual headstones and the stele.

Interesting... I wonder what really happened...

That report was about as unbiased as the media is today...  :-\

Yep. But at least back then the press didn't give lip service to being unbiased.

What happened?  Well, it was part of the Pawpaw Rebellion. The story I got from the locals as I was passing through (on the way back home to CA from Gettysburg) was that Thornton was recruiting in the area, and either he had organized a picnic or the town had.  The Federals stumbled on the pickets, had a running fire fight in which some of the pickets were killed, Thornton and his men, being mingled with town folks and not having full load outs, beat feet out of there.  Pretty much as the NYT put it, but without all the hate speech.  The old guys who were telling us about it didn't mention the summary executions and such.  They were in their 80s, so like as not they learned about it from their grandparents first hand accounts.
