Oversized hinge pins

I purchased an oversized hinge pin from Bellm.  After installing it on my frame that has my 309 JDJ barrel I didn't get the tiny groups it claimed but they didn't get any bigger either. It did require me to do some tapping to get it to fit.  Anyone else use one and found it to work as advertised?

Tell ya what I'm waiting for - the day I buy a used barrel that some "cronie" used an over-sized hinge pin in. I'm going to be one unhappy camper when I find my standard pin is sloppy in a reamed hole. Time to vent..........someone is always trying to re-invent the wheel.....know what I mean?

Or better yet... I recently bought some more Contender frames, and one of them was fitted with an oversize pin and was slightly stretched.   No, I wasn't a happy camper.   Ended up having to dedicate the frame and fit all my JDJ barrels to it - refit the lugs on all the barrels.   On the bright side I guess, at least if a frame is going to get stretched to the point of unuse by the Handcannon's, it will only be this one frame now.    Lesson:  Don't just assume like I did - no matter who it is, ask before you buy.

I prefer to change barrels without the use of a hammer and since I am happy with my accuracy I cannot see the need.

Well dad gum it..I have sold over 100 of these pins and use them myself.. They give me the lattitude of tightening up a loose frame hole and barrel fit to get a little better accuracy and not stretch cases as much. Sure you have to tap them in. I oil the pin and tap out the standard pin with the Bellm one. If the frame and barrel are very new, they probably do more harm than good as the custom barrels might not even lock up. I have had them not shoot and went back to the standard pin in those cases.. It is good on old frames and barrels which are loose as a goose locking up... Hope it helps.

Tried one on an Encore frame that I wasn't happy with.  It didn't help.

Well I must say that I am surprised to hear some of this. I myself have all my frames fitted with the 1x oversize pin and have seen a big difference in accuracy. It took my 7mm08 rifle barrel from 2.250 group down to 1.5 with just the pin. With this then a little load work it shoots great. My muzzle loader is know shooting a 1.0 group all the time. I don't believe the pin alone will make any gun shoot a .5 group alone but it will help is my feeling.

Sorry to hear that you guys had no luck with the pins. I have done all mine with them and they have improved in consistancy. I don't like a barrel that shakes . Most of mine were found with the front wood off. After the pin, float the wood all around.  I have 2, 300 mags, 7m 08, and a 45 70 that will hold less than 1 inch at 100 yards, also 270 pistol,if i do my part. I have found that I can load starting loads in manuals and they will all shoot less than 2 inches, and get better if tuned.  <:)

I installed one of Bellms oversized hinge pins in my Stainless Encore frame and 308 barrel. It did not increase the accuracy as I was getting almost same hole groups but would have a flyer thet screwed up a good group. I installed the pin and no  more flyers in fact my 3 shot groups now are all cutting the same hole at 100 yards. So I guess all I can say is "It Works For Me" and Mike Bellm has been a great help and a super guy to deal with.

I have 2 frames, one is an old 5 digit serial number, not easy open conversion and it is loose as all get out, that one does much better with the oversize pin, the other frame is a 3rd generation and shows no difference, so in one there is visible improvement and in the other, no change.  Not bad for a $6 investment.

I have a 12 in. .223, barrel a little sloppy and  shot at least MOA . I installed the first oversized pin and it still shoots MOA or better. I had to tap it in as per instructions.  I hate the slop!! If I had to force it in or lost accuracy I would leave my TC as is. ( my 2 centavos )
