Congratulations to Alabama. If that had been my favorite team playing against the Horns, then I too would have been happy to see Colt McCoy leave the game early. That's how it goes in football and Alabama won it fair and square.

But, after McCoy left, I was sort of disappointed because I felt the game no longer represented the National Championship. I know that one player shouldn't have so much effect on a team, but in certain cases he/she does. Texas rode the arm of Colt McCoy into that championship game and to have him not play was like watching the Indianapolis Colts play without Payton Manning against a hot New England Patriots team. The game last night will forever leave me with the big "what if" question. Then, the Horns nearly came back to win the game with a rookie QB. Like I said, a Big Congrats to the Tide, and technically speaking you are the National Champs and you deserve it, but I'm just not sure in my mind if the game last night was the one that proved it.

Ya know as one of the biggest Alabama fans I know, I feel the same way.  When it was clear McCoy wasn't coming back I turned to Matt and said well that just isn't fair.  I didn't want there to be ANY question that Bama was best.  And with the way things happed there is always the well...What IF Colt hadn't got hurt???  I wish things were different so there would be no doubt in anyones mind that the Alabama Crimson Tide were the best team in the Nation, but IF bullfrogs had wings they wouldn't bump their butts when they jumped.  ;)

If Texas made it a game with a high school QB, I think that it might be a bit of an overstatement that Bama would have crushed the Horns even with Colt.  That's what is fun about what ifs in sports discussions, but I'd guess that, since Bama couldn't touch the freshman kid until the end, and then only because of a missed blocking assignment, having one of the greatest college QBs ever with wide open receivers all over the field and all day in the pocket would have been interesting.

For the record, I had Bama blowing UT away on my pool, but watching the first few minutes, save that unfortunate hit, Bama might have been the one run out of the stadium.

Alabama has a good defense, but I looked hard all night, and I never saw Endomican Suh in Crimson.  We'll never know, but with that kind of time (I counted to 4 on almost every drop for Texas), Colt would have likely carved Bama up like so much Sushi.  Props to Ingram, and what a tough kid Snead is playing with a couple of busted ribs, but Texas DL spent as much time in Bama's backfield as Ingram did.

Losing a critical player usually has a disheartening affect on his team, and an inspiring affect on the other.  Bama manned up in the first half, but looked pretty anemic through most of the second.

Both were great teams, and deserved to be in that game.  Congrats to Bama, the better team last night.

Funny, I watched both Colt McCoy and McElroy grow up. I attended several of their high school games.  Colt was always considered to be a small kid from a small school (Tuscola, TX) that was too slow for collage football.  Elroy was somewhat larger, but really, in my opinion, not as talented of a football player as Colt.  Perhaps the best QB of this era is Mississippi’s Jevan Sneed, all Texas products.

The entire completion of the game changed after Colt went down, without the engineer the train couldn’t stay on track. It would have been interesting to see how things might have turned out with an experienced QB rather than a freshman that had only taken 6 snaps in a collage game before being thrown to the wolves.

Regardless, it was still a fairly good game, and had it not been for the errors of an inexperienced QB it may have been a little closer.  I pray that Colt’s injury is not serious enough to prevent what looks like a promising professional career, and good luck to Sneed who has forfeited his four year of collage for a shot at the NFL.

Congratulations go out to Bama!  :'( :'( :'(

Well said Rockbilly.  While I didn't get to watch these young men in high school I have seen them grow up and mature in college.  It truly is a shame that Colt got hurt.  It eliminated what would have been a true championship game.  Bama won and congratulations go to them, but were they the best...I don't think so.

ONE thing you have to take under consideration IF you wanna be objective is that had Colt McCoy not been hurt the score more likely is 14 or 10 zip in the first quarter. and had he not been hurt he would have kept the Alabama offense off the field a heck of a lot more the rest of the game!

All that said We'll never know . We do know who won and I'm glad for em!

I'm still perplexed why the kid(Gilbert) had no more play time than he had.

We will never know how things might have played out had Colt stayed healthy, I can only think of one phrase to cover this,  As Dandy Don Meredith use to say on Monday Night Football, “If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas.” ::) ::) ::)

Rockabilly, Ol' Don sure had a way with words, didn't he.  Congats to Bama from a Texas Alum.  It was a great game.
