Need help with Remington muzzleloader

I was offered a muzzleloader today, but I did not bite because I have never heard of it before. Don't know if it's just out or not, but I need you guys to set me straight. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. The gun is a Remington Genesis 50 cal. and I think it came as a package deal with the scope it has on it. It has a black composite stock and it looks like a stainless or nickle coated barrel. Says on the barrel Made In Spain. Dig deeper or pass on this one? It's unfired, what's it worth. They were made by Traditions.  They aren't imported anymore but they went pretty cheap at the end.  I've heard they were accurate.

I am an encore fan. But, I do know any muzzleloader and I don't care what brand, is accurate with the right load!!! Find the right bullet and powder combo and you will be set. Don't start with 150gr. of powder. And start with what ever bullet is most available. If you are hunting deer, you can kill them with what ever bullet will fit in your muzzleloader!!!!! Good luck. They were made for Remington by contract by Traditions.... Traditions are imported.  Remington has discontinued the contract so they will not longer be imported with the Remington name on them.

The Traditions Yukon Drop Breech is pretty much like the Genesis, except the block on the Genesis swing back and forth.

Personally unless the price is really really good I would pass on that particular gun and look for something else.

Fellas, thank you very much. I appreciate your honesty. I think I will pass. I am in the market for one, just haven't made up my mind yet. Have heard a lot about the CVA and the Bergara barrel, but I can't seem to find a dealer anywhere near me to look at one first hand. I have always liked the Thompson/Center products. So I'll keep looking and asking until I make up my mind. Anyways, thanks for your opinions.     RRM

I had one of these that I sold when I bought a breech barrel gun.  It was accurate, reliable and all around ok.  The only dislike I had was the drop breech would tend to hang up if not kept spankin' clean at the range.  No problem for several shots, then I had to spray it down with Windex to keep it freed up.
