My place is located West of Abilene, Tx. We have a fair number of hogs with about fifty percent being black/white, we also have some that look almost yellow. One of these days I will figure out how to post picture from my trail camera and will show them.
My son killed a very large sow yesterday afternoon, she was black but had several pigs with her that were black and white. We just shoot them and leave them lay.
I had a nerve check two weeks ago, I shot a large boar, (about 300lbs) I shot him with a 6.5x55 useing a 139 gr Nosler bullet, the shot was about 150 yards. I knew he was large and decided to go take a look, I drove as close as I could got out of the truck and started up the hill, I decided I had better take my gun so I went back to the truck and got it. As I topped the hill the hog came in view, he saw me at about the same time, jumped up and made a run towards me. I fired from the hip even though I missed it caused him to turn, he ran out about 30 yards and turned broadside, I shot again and he went down for the count. This incident taught me a lesson, I now carry my model 29 in the truck for just this purpose. Had I ot had a gun the pig might have ran over me as there were no trees to climb or place to get out of it's way. The darnn thing had tusk about 4 inches long, they could have done a lot of damage to an old man if he had got to me.
