Mossberg 500 16 ga.

I saw one of these barrels for sale and wonderd if it would work on my 12 ga. frame?
Didnt know if they used the 12 ga fram or 20 ga fram.

I'd think that one over. 16's can be difficult to find and if you do find them, you'll probably wish you hadn't. { pricy }

Were i live 16ga are easy to find and I pay just under $6.00 a box. I own three shot guns a 16ga single and a 16ga side by side and the 12ga 500 pump thought it would be nice to have a pump 16ga. Did'nt know if i could screw the 16ga barrel on my 12ga as some companies use a 12ga gun and under bore the barrel to make it a 16ga. If not i wont by the barrel thats what iam trying to find out.

I just tried this for you. Yes the 16 will mount to the 12, however when I loaded one in the mag all I had to do is gently move the base with my finger and the shell would pop out.

Yes.  It was a 500 B  (The 12ga is an A; 20 ga. a C).  I don't know when or for how long they were made. I would believe, however, it was a long time ago.

I have one and I have a buddy that has one. Both have a red ventilated recoil pad with the Mossberg script on the bottom and each appear to have walnut wood. 

Around these parts (Maryland) I have seen only two in tha last 5-6 years.  My buddy bought the first one and I bought the second.  ;D

Thanks for the reply. I have seen the red ventliated recoil pad on a 12 ga--(My father had it when I was a kid)--but have never even heard of the 500 being in 16 ga.  I'll start looking for one here in MO. I have enjoyed shooting a 16 ga in years past from time to time, but never owned one. Be an interesting piece to own.

I have a soft spot for 16's.  Been fortunate to come across a few in the last ten years or so.  Perhaps due to many of the senior hunters passing on and their children/grandchildren selling their firearms.  There are many old timers' firearms out there that need a new home. 

I hope you find a 16.

It looks like it is going to be a good hunt to find a Mossberg 16ga. Last weekend I went to a gun show that advertised 1000 tables, didn't count them, but there could have been that many, nada. Actually saw only 3 16ga. guns in the whole show. Sometimes the hunt is more fun than actually buying the gun.

You may want to keep a lookout for a Western Field or Revelation brand.  Often they were made by Mossberg and were Mod 500's.  Western Field was marketed through Montgomery Ward department stores.  Revelation through Western Auto stores. 

Actually, I've seen more 16's under those two lables of late than under the Mossberg lable.  Some are very nice looking examples.

About 6-7 years back I picked up a Western Field 20 ga pump that was a Mod 500.  It had scrolling on each side of the receiver depicting hunting scenes, walnut wood, nice recoil pad, and a vent rib.

if it doesn't have to be a pump , western field also had bolt action shotguns made for them as well , i've got one in 16 guage and aside from the detachable box magazine only holding 2 rounds they're decent guns ( though not as pretty as the pump )

I think that I would rather have a pump---but will look for other names on the shotguns--there was only 3 16's at the last gun show I went to though--all single shots. There is a gun show comming up next weekend in St. Charles,Mo. Will see what it brings.

I know about the Browning, handled one a few months ago, also know about the old Browning Sweet 16--had an uncle who used one for many years---just sort of thought that owning a mossberg 16 would be an interesting thing to have. In fact--maybe I'm a bit warped--but I enjoy the hunt for something at times more than actually owning that thing whatever it is.
When I came home from Vietnam in 1970 there was a huge buck running around the country where the family farm is, I hunted that buck for 3 seasons--the third season I had him in my sights, there was 2 broken tines, now usually I'm just a meat hunter--not into the trophy stuff--but I had this buck in my sights--I let him walk. I had him, but that meat would probably have been pretty tough to eat. Didn't hunt him anymore. Sort of get the idea?

I'll buy that shotgun if I come across one--if.

16 guage was an underated one for sure they were great guns. i had a sweet 16 i let go in a trade...another one of the great stupid mistakes of my life. i killed many a goose with that baby in the rice fields and many a woodduck in the swamps. man i miss the shotgun and the guage.`
