What sabot to use in a Knight KRB7 1:28 twist?
« on: December 27, 2009, 01:50:42 PM »
Hi,

I shot the Hornady SST 250 grain sabot today - with 70 grains of FF.
I've got a bunch of FF and FFF and would like to find a sabot that shoots well with the loose stuff.
The few shots I took this am were pretty bad.   :D ???

Any ideas?

Thanks.

That is the only bullet I use in my encore!!! Performance is great. Did you swab between shots?? You should go up and down with your powder charge too!!! Good luck!!!

No - I didn't swab.  Only had time for a few shots.  First was high left, second dead on (figured the first to be a flyer with a clean bore), third was low right... :D  ::)  ???
I'll go up a bit in powder to see if I can get some consistency.

Just wondering if others are having luck with a different bullet.

Thanks.

I like the 250grn SST, for shooting & hunting. I have a good supply but plan to try the 300grn Hornady XTP handgun bullet, .452 for the 45. You could try something like that, just get your own sabot jackets to hold the 45cal bullet, Harvestor for me. I'm up in the 110-120 grns of B209 in my Knight Disc. You could try a higher charge of the powder you are using.

Harvester crush rib sabots, purchased bulk, separately. Same for bullets, 250 SST are most accurate, but 100 rounds of Hornady 250 gran XTP for $24 is great, and they shoot very well.

I believe you will find good results with a powder charge some where in the 80 to 120 gr charge.

That's exactly what I did yesterday.
It was freezing out but I did a bit of experimenting.
Went to 80 grains and it was definately more consistant - all i have to use right now are the 250 SSTs. But they seemed to work really well.

I've heard good and bad things written about this gun, but I think I really like it.  Too bad about Knight.

I went to my local shop and asked about the HARVESTER sabots and that i'd like to purchase those in bulk.  He had no idea what I was talking about.  Where do you guys buy or order these from?  Do you order the bullets as well?

Thanks!

MMP wsabots you can order direct from MMP. Do a goggle search and get the phone number.

Any good gun shop with a reloading department should have a good supply of pistol bullets that work for Muzzle loaders with sabots.

:'(Knight isn't the only American company to go out.  :-[Seems people today don't find it fashionable to buy American.
I was looking at Porter Cable cordless drills the other day. At one time a very high end tool well thought of. :-[ today a plastic looking piece of junk from China.
