SIG Mosquito?
« on: January 23, 2010, 07:14:53 AM »
Hey guys.  I'm in the market for a .22LR semi-auto and while looking at reviews lately of the Buckmark and Ruger 22/45, I ran across the SIG Mosquito.  Price looks similar to the other two, and comparing my SIG P225 9mm to my Ruger P95 9mm I certainly prefer THAT SIG more, so I figured I'd ask if any of ya'll had shot the Mosquito and had any thoughts on it vs the Browning and Ruger (I had also looked at the Walther P22 but most sites that I've read give it much less favorable reviews than the others).

I think that the Buckmark and Ruger are far less finicky about what ammo they like to digest.  They come with two sets of springs, one for standard valocity ammo and one for high velocity ammo.   My brother has a Mosquito and it does feel great in the hand and it's a lot of fun to shoot but I don't think it is as accurate or as rugged as the Brownings or Rugers.  I would place it in the same class as the P22.  I would not trade my MkII Target for one lets put it that way.

Forget the SIG ,one of my camper's has it,he's a retired Marine, and it ONLY fire's with CCI,he called SIG about sending it back and they told him if it shoot's CCI just fine they/SIG will NOT work on it with out charging him,Im not knocking SIG here, this is just a head's up for you, this is a known issue with this .22 from SIG,Im sure someone will chime in here with more,I like the Ruger Mark's, I've had a 1996 M2 slabside 6 7/8 inch goverment model in blue that i loved BUT i screwed up by putting that quick strip kit in it,the gunsmith could not get it to fire right so i sent it back to Ruger and they put it back to original, replaced everything except the hammer and it still missfired, it would not dent the case enough to fire, forget the quick strip kit for the ruger M's,i ended up tradeing for a new M3 hunter in stainless, just know i find Ruger's a bear to put it back together after cleaning BUT that is an issue for me,NOT the gun,i just need to learn how it's done.

Just to do a follow up, I have a Sig mosquito and yes the ammo it likes is limited and jams on all others. I have found that my Sig loves CCI hv 40gr mini mags.

Thanks guys.  That's just the type of info I was looking for :).  At this point I think the Ruger 22/45 is looking like the most likely candidate :).

Have you seen the new Ruger 22/45RP with the removable grip panels?
