Merry Christmas!
« on: December 24, 2009, 01:36:52 AM »
As I mature (get old) I realize how important this time of year is.  Starting today I will be spending the Holidays with the people I have been blessed to live this life with.  Family and friends will be gathering, some I only get to see at this time of year.

I am also blessed with this group that gathers regularly here on GBO.  I am grateful for the wisdom and good humor that this site is known for, and I look forward to our meeting here on line.

So let me wish each of you a very Merry Christmas, and the most blessed and prosperous New Year!  And keep your powder dry.

Yes Merry Christmas to everybody. It is even more merry to me and a lot of people in my area. We had a big snow storm that dumped a foot of wet snow on us here in east TN last Friday and our power, phone and water went out at 7 p.m Friday. Trees broke the power lines down everywhere and the main sub-station in my area blew up. I have never seen anything like what happened when the station blew. I live 4 miles from it and it lit up the sky brighter than day light. It looked just like the light from an ark welder. The power came back on at my house at 7 p.m. Sunday the phone Monday morning and the water came on at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The only part that worried me was maybe loosing all the stuff in two freezers. One was full of deer meat, 8 deer I killed this year. The other was full of veggies we put up this summer. It kept OK but I was beginning to sweat it a little bit before the power came on. I will have me a generator soon. I do keep a kerosene heater and extra Kerosene and 12 gal of drinking water, extra batteries and candles all the time. The big blizzard of 1998 taught me a lesson on being prepared except I let the part about getting a generator slide. Not this time. We are having a lot of wind today. Just of up to 80 mph are expected tonight in the higher elevation. We are supposed to have up to 50 mph just around my house and rain. With all the snow that is melting quickly because of the warm weather and the rain coming now we stand a good chance of having floods. I live on the high ground so I don't have to worry. I will try to keep my powder dry. ;D

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone and the happiest of New Years

Nearly two thousand years ago in an obscure village, a child was born of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village where He worked as a carpenter until he was thirty. Then for three years He became an itinerant preacher.

This Man never went to college or seminary. He never wrote a book. He never held a public office. He never had a family nor owned a home. He never put His foot inside a big city nor traveled even 200 miles from His birthplace. And though he never did any of the things that usually accompany greatness, throngs of people followed Him. He had no credentials but Himself.

While He was still young, the tide of public opinion turned against Him. His followers ran away. He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was sentenced to death on a cross between two thieves. While He was dying, His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth--the simple coat He had worn. His body was laid in a borrowed grave provided by a compassionate friend.

But three days later this Man arose from the dead--living proof that He was, as He had claimed, the Savior whom God had sent, the Incarnate Son of God.

Nineteen centuries have come and gone and today the risen Lord Jesus Christ is the central figure of the human race. On our calendars His birth divides history in two eras. One day of every week is set aside in remembrance of Him. And our two most important holidays celebrate His birth and resurrection. On church steeples around the world His cross has become the symbol of victory over sin and death.

This one Man's life has furnished the theme for more songs, books, poems and paintings than any other person or event in history. Thousands of colleges, hospitals, orphanages and other institutions have been founded in honor of this One who gave His life for us.

All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the governments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned have not changed the course of history as much as this One Solitary Life.

the most heartwreching words any man will ever hear
"depart from me, I never knew you"  Jesus
We may ignore, but we can nowhere evade the presence of God. The world is crowded with Him. He walks everywhere incognito.” C.S. Lewis
