Ok guys how about some suggestions. I just purchased the new Bisley Hunter from Ruger, which I intend to scope. What's the best way to carry &/or holster this gun for hunting (deer)?

I like a badoleer type holster. There is one that's convertable to a hip holster but I can't remember the brand. I use a S&W Power Port .44 with a Dot sight. I have an Uncle Mike's badoleer holster. Dave

Hi, Congrats on your new purchase. After a long wait,I have a new Bisley Hunter and I bought a Uncle Mike's bandolier holster in camo, Size #4. It fits like a glove and has a flap to protect the gun. The place to buy is Cheaperthandirt.com They have the best price that I could find anywhere on the net, about 42.00 I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 scope,2x6 on it and so far I am pleased as can be.

:D Hey there shooters,

Personally, have never liked the above mentioned holsters. The Uncle Mikes and their counter parts are far to bulky. the straps are stiff and they just have little to recommend.

Spend some time thinking and looking and you just may find that a custom/homemade holster made out of good heavy cowhide, well formed and oiled is the runaway winner.

I am fond of a left side butt forward carry for my handguns with the holster made so that the handgun is carried high and solid. With the larger 44 the rig  is sometimes carried so that the butt is towards the center of my body.

Out of the way, comfortable, quick and if properly done, should work great even with a scoped handgun.

Now if we are talking about a Contender or --------------- well that is another question. However, leather is still part of any good answer.

Keep em coming!

I use 2 Uncle Mikes for my long  44's one is a camo  sidekick 4 for a scope. The other is a sidekick w/o scope it fits closer and is more in line of a concealed carry for a 8"+ gun!!!

I DO NOT LIKE IT.  It IS bulky, but worse yet....they ar LOUD.  If you use the snaps in a quiet woods, they sound like a bomb going off either fastening or unfastening.  The material of the holster resonates like the body of a guitar.  It is ALSO very Loud if a branch rubs against it while walking.  Might as well scream and shout, and say "Here I come!"  They need to get smart with those things and make them with a quiet fabric instead of one that plays like a fiddle.  I ended up going to a lightweight sling with quick-detach swivels, I REALLY LIKE IT.  I just recently took the scope off my 10" 7TCU, and it is a real treat to carry this way.
....make it count

Thanks fellas for all the good suggestions. I really liked the Bandito setup and will ultimately have one. For the short run I did the Uncle Mike's #4. Gander Mountain had them quite reasonable and the store had a discount program that sweetened the deal. By the way I scoped it with a Leupold. And the whole outfit is shooting fine. I need to practice and practice again.
Right now the gun shoots better than I do. Thanks Again.JR

JR5, You made a good choice. You bought what you felt was best for your needs. I have many holsters, and they fit the need for the gun. My hunting holsters are sholder holsters. The UNCLE MIKES with a ammo wallet on the other side. This keeps the gun up, and out of the way. I wear it under my jacket, since here in PA. it runs the gamet from cool to freezing. And when deer season comes around the weather can be nasty here at times.
Praise GOD, and pass the ammo!
