How was Christmas?
« on: December 28, 2009, 05:43:29 AM »
We had a dandy holiday. Mostly immediate family because of the snow, then after it cleared up we visited relatives. It was a good time. I saw the bad weather in the forecast and got a turkey, which is something we don't often do.

John Keyes:

Interesting. We put our stuff up just before Christmas, then take it down about a week after new year's day. It's just a different schedule.

B.B. King's Thrill Is Gone in this context reminds me of another song he did that contains lyrics like "I've got a good mind to give up living/And go shopping instead...."

(Eventually you learn it's to shop for a tomb stone for himself.)

Other than the real reason for the season. It just sucks.Hate the holidays with a passion.Kids are grown and always too busy.Grand kids can't get away from the video games.Wont let them text all the time they're here. All have extended families.Step parents and step inlaws. Can't enjoy the day.We get together when we can.Wife is dog setting for some friends and I'm here by my self.Nice and quiet.Me and the cats. That's the nice thing.Peace and quiet.I can scratch when it itches and enjoy it.Slow

Went to ILL for Christmas to visit Mom and family, doc says it will be Moms last.  We  hadn't been together at Christmas for over 20 years. Had a wonderful time. My sickly grandaughter Jadyn spent her first Christmas at home in her 3 years of life. Wheel bearings were howling before we got home, gotta get that fixed. POWDERMAN.  :( :(

Our Christmas was perfect.  We divided our time between all of the family.  We go to Matt's Grandparents and my extended family on Christmas eve and then to my grandmothers and out to GB's house on Christmas.  I cooked the Turkey for my Nanny's this year and once again tooting my own horn, but it was YUMMY!  Christmas day was bittersweet at my family's because of the loss of my mother.  Evan lifted my Grandmother's spirits by telling her not to worry Maw Maw was getting to spend Jesus's birthday with Jesus.  She was the lucky one not to cry about her.  Child logic...gotta love it.

Santa was very generous this year and my children got way more than they expected.  That was what was so touching Christmas morning.  My kids were saying WOW and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.  They only got a couple of toys a piece, but they LOVED them.  We also got them the gaming systems, (used and broken and dirt cheap).  Having a Mr. Fix it around made for some happy boys who would have NOT been given hundred dollar gaming systems otherwise.  We spent our money mostly on home school supplies and who would have thought that they would be more excited about them than the toys.

I think the biggest Christmas miracle came the two days following Christmas.  The day after Christmas I didn't get out of bed for most of the day.   Matt handled the kids and the cooking all day.  Then the next day I left to run some errands and came home to a SPOTLESS house.  He even cleaned out the kids closets!!!!  MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME!!!  I hope your families were as blessed as mine. :-)

We slept in till Noon Christmas Day.  Fixed a big Dinner, and stayed home, no one went outside for anything.  We spent the entire day in our PJs.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
