« on: September 08, 2003, 05:12:24 PM »
I am thinking of geting a Bushmaster Varmiter ar15.

This is a tricked out target rifle.

Is anybody familiar with it?

Thanks. :D

At the gun shop where I work we sell these for $995. They are about the best value for what you get in an AR. They are a 1 MOA gun with good ammo. Nobody has brought one back yet.

zthang,

This has a 2 stage trigger, can you explane what that is?

Nobody around me has one in stock and I would like to understand the trigger better.

Thanks,

Just got one of these at the Indianapolis 1500 gun show last weekend.  Will take it to the range this weekend for the first time.  I paid $950 NIB.
Got the scope mounted last night.  Been contemplating getting one for over a year.

I just swapped scopes that I had around. I put a matte finish Tasco 3-9X on it.  I went with high Burris Signature rings and did not use the scope riser blocks that came with the gun.  I have the scope mounted as far forward as possible with this setup and I wish it could move up another 1/2".

I bought a Varmint Special last Thursday and bought a B&L 4200 6 X 24, mounted it, and took it to the range. I tried every type of factory ammo I could find (8 different boxes). My BEST group at 100 yards was over 3"!!! most were worse, some MUCH worse. Sent it back to Bushmaster this morning. I have a Colt 6742 (Same configuration as the BM) that shoots 1/2 " groups at 100 yards and I think the BM SHOULD do the same but guess I got a bad one.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

Federal XM193 ammo shot 1.44" 5 shot group for me.  I haven't tried to load mine yet for accuracy, still breaking it in.   Cheapest ammo I've shot goes <2.50" at 100 meters.

Have you tried Match Ammo?

Yes I tried a couple of different match ammo brands that Bushmaster reccommended. Same results. I did get an e-mail from Bushmaster that one of their gunsmiths took it to the range and got the same results that I did so they were gonna put a new barrel on it. They seem to honestly stand by their products. I assume they will re-shoot before they send it back but they did not say this. Can't wait to get it back. Our coyote population misses me.

Had my Varminter to the range today and got a 1.4" ave group for three-three shot groups at 200 meters with federal XM-193 ammo.  Best three shot group was under 1".
It was 43F and wind was unpredictable at about 10 mph.
I'm pretty happy with this performance.

Well, I got my Varminter back and went to the range with it. It is a whole new gun. I got 5 shot groups that went from 1" with cheap ammo down to my best group of .4" with federal Premiums. I am VERY happy with it now.
