Dayton-Traister makes a cock on open conversion. Brwonell's sells it, probably several other places as well. I have it on both mine along with Timney triggers, and it works great. It does require a cut be made, so if you aren't comfortable cutting on your bolt, you might want to take it to a smith.

I've done several and yes it can be done. It requires a bit of knowledge and care but is not hard. It can also be done with replacement parts such as the cocking piece from a M30 Remington or since those are a bit hard to find one can be made from the original Enfield cocking piece.

I put the cocking piece on my P17, love it.
They offer 2 models depending on how many rounds yours holds.
Some simple grinding was needed for mine, just use the original cocking piece as your model and grind it down to match.
The sear will need some attention, don't remove too much.
Mine has just a little creep and I left it until I get the Timmney replacement.
Very nice improvement on it's own. What a tack driver.
