First firings, some pics for ya
« on: December 28, 2009, 05:24:56 PM »
well we fired the new samcc barrel over the holidays. had to make some quills with post it notes (no fuse available)
had to use triple seven black powder replacement (ffg type)
forgot to get 50 cal balls so we had to use 50 cal bullets with power skirts, 100 grain lead
did some blank loads with wads of paper towel firsts though.
did 10 salute/blank charges all the way up to 50 grains
then 5 bullet shots, largest was 40 grains-think it was far enough.

first pic is of the muzzle concusion, this was a 40 grain (by weight) load of triple 7 ffg., with 100 grain bullet
the bullet did not hit the snow-all the splash up is pure concussion

and no we did NOT hit the tractor-although it may have been close

and this is what happens to plywood at 10 paces
you get a nice little entry hole

and a slightly larger exit hole

Great photos!!  We love to see people actually shooting their cannons.  When you get some .490" round balls, take some pics of a 25 yard target.  I bet you will be surprised at the accuracy you can get.

Good Luck!

the cannon being fired in the above pics is mine, it is the one I made and posted pics of in this post http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,191107.0.html

now i have to make a swab for barrel cleaning and a ram rod would apparently be better than pencils.

I've heard about that Yankee phenomenon called snow and the devices used to remove it, but that's the first time I've seen one of the older black powder models in action.
