Who makes Cabela's pistols? I e-mailed them and they would not say. Only that they were made in Italy

Pietta I would say judging by the price

Be aware that you may see differences between different importer's FLL Pietta pistols.  I believe that they make them to order, the degree of fit and finish, as specified by each importer.  Additionally, some importers may do more work on them once they reach our shores.  Generally the higher the price the better the fit an finish, but not always.

Don't shy from Piettas. The quality has been going up and up in the past couple of years. I have a couple 58 rems and I have no complaints and I shoot them regularly. I have two unfired Uberti navy models that are gonna take a whole lot of work to get them running smooth and reliably.
The thing I like about Cabelas is their no bullsh**t return policy. I had to send a sleeping bag back one time that I just didn't care for after seeing it  and they sent a UPS guy to the house to pick it up. No charge for shipping. That is good. Things like that keeps my business.

I agree, Howdy, I have 2 Uberti Remington Navies, one is a replacement for a completely faulty one (barrel .03 off center in the frame.) Both rougher than the price should merit.  My Piettas (44's) were closer to right, but the Navy Arms Pietta barrel unscrewed while shooting and I had to locktite it in.  The Ubertis are, however more authentic mechanically.  Shot on posse this weekend with Johnny Mack Brown and son, who you met on our range a while back.

I have a 58 Rem brass frame by Pietta and I like it very much. Good gun.

Charlie, I have even noticed before they stepped up production that Cabelas seems to keep more of the C&Bs in stock too. No waiting, usually. These days thanks to cowboy action shooting no doubt, it seems that production is a lot higher now. I was just reading an article today by Iron Duke ( Mike Venturino ) in Shooting times. He said that a lot of the BP stuff is in current demand now and that would be due to cowboy action. He was mentioning the cartridges of 32-20, 38-40, 44-40. They were all but extinct until the manufacturers saw the demand and resurrected them.

Flint, yes Johnny Mack Brown. He and I think it was grandson were there at the range during the week when I ventured out to make sure I could find the range on a morning that I might be  half asleep and needing to send some lead down range, while visiting down that way. It will be soon I hope. I would love to shoot with you folks. Johnny Mack Brown was another really nice pard to meet. Seems like everytime I meet someone new in CAS, it is another one I want to know more and have some fun shooting with. I can not believe how many of the Coto Cowboys I have come to know and have fun with when they come up this way. Funny how that is, huh? Let's face it, cowboy shooters are the best and there is no two ways about it.

Yep, good people shooting CAS.  Kinda makes you wonder why all the other people went astray.  Either Cowboy shooting mellows people out or draws fine folks to begin with...  I prefer to think it's the good old fashioned folks we grew up with found the same on the range.  Now we know how to solve the world's problem, except the ranges aren't big enough to hold them all on the weekend.  Of course there are still folks out there better suited to be the targets.......

Are you talking about the Johnny Mack Brown the cowboy star of my youth? If so he must be getting on in his 90s. He almost single-handedly won the rose bowl for Alabama in the 1920s. He was my hero when I was a kid.

:D  I have to admit that I am not the real Howdy Doody either  :)
But, I do get folks that say I look like Robert Duval and have even had someone ask for an autograph. Go figure.
That is what is neat about CAS. The aliases. Howdy was the best I could come up with.
