Has anyone antiqued their Buffalo Classic or Carbine? Any "how to" tips? dinger.

perhaps the same way some suggest to "age" an AR, tie a rope to it and drag it up and down your driveway a few times?....<><..... :o

I posted this before, but it didn't get through.

I once put a blued muzzleloader outside for a few weeks. I frequently turned it to give it reasonable equal exposure to air and ground. When I retrieved it, it looked awful, but after rubbing it down with steel wool and oil, I discovered it looked truly aged. The finish was somewhat splotchy, but it was smooth.

I forgot to say that it's very important to plug the barrel if you put it outside.

perhaps I am the odd man out here but I think I would try to keep in as best condition as I could while still enjoying using it. I would think that is what S.E.Ak was saying, so I agree with him. I disagree with those that ask about "ageing" thier AR's also...<><....:)

MSP Ret, I laughed out loud at your first reply. very wry! perhaps a more aggressive approach than i had in mind,but thanks for the laugh. S.E.Ak.,would that i could! And,Mike in Virginia, that idea was creative and bold. Thanks to all for the input. I really like my bc carbine, but thought it should look like it had spent some time in a scabbard on a horse, or on a buckboard.

Thanks, I'm glad I could bring a smile to your face or a laugh to your lips. Actually, over on a couple of the AR boards, the suggestion of dragging your gun up and down the driveway a few times to "season" or "age" it is voiced quite often. I have never been abe to do it to any of my guns, but then again, they get used and aquire thier own little nicks and rubs from honest use. A gun is a tool, use it, take care of it, and enjoy it...Not many "safe queens" here....<><....:)

On the cowboy action boards, Ive heard of guys burying their guns in manuer! evidently cow poop has all the ingreadiants of sweat but concentrated.they come out with a flat grey look. sort of the "rode hard and put away wet" look. It must work somewhat well as Ive heard that some had bought 1st Gen Colts only to find that they were new guns that had been faked! I still dont think I could do that to one of mine. DR

I go to a lot of trouble trying to keep mine from looking that way.  Can't offer help other than to wait 20 years and use it often.  It will look aged.

Loan it to one of my brothers for a couple of months.
I think the standard treatment is: throw behind truck seat, throw in back of truck, throw in horse trailer, leave in feedway for a few days, leave in tobacco barn a few days...repeat.
You should see the Model 71 Winchester and 3 screw Ruger SingleSix convertible they've "aged", among others.  Can't shoot em anymore, but durn, they sure have that authenic "aged" look.  I don't think we share the same DNA.

I plan on ageing my BC Carbine by hunting with it every year :D
I already have some character marks in the stocks after hunting with it 1 season.

Really no such thing as aged guns. They were taken care of or not.You can find thousands of hundred year old guns that have a very good finish. Case color does fade with time and light but blueing and browning can go on forever if taken care of.

I'm fixing to buy a 1950s 39A that looks like it was made in 1750.  Browing is a result of age it wasn't done on purpose.

 On the metal try using some Birchwood Casey's blue remover. Take it down to bare metal and then let nature take it's course.

Naval Jelly will also take bluing off in seconds.  I've used it to remove browning on muzzleloaders many times.
