SB1 vs. SB2 frame
« on: January 06, 2010, 01:43:12 PM »
Whats the difference between the SB1 frame and the SB2 frame?  Does certain barrels only fit on certain frames?  Thanks, Mike

Mike, welcome and read the FAQs above.  It's all in there.  If you take off the stock, you'll see the SB1 is solid cast and the SB2 is skeletonized.  SB2 is high pressure, SB1 low.  Barrels will interchange, but ya gotta be careful about putting a high pressure rifle barrel on a low pressure SB1 frame.  I hope this helps some.

Mike

I am kinda new to the Handi world, but from this forum, I will say yes. Any centerfire rifle barrel in reason will be fine. I am not sure about like 500 NE or something to that tune, but if H&R offers it in the barrel accessory program then you will be fine. Also see the FAQ's about barrel fitting as you may need a slight adjustment or two if it is not factory fitted.

Check the FAQs on this one too.  Some frames (SB2) made in the late 90s can only be fitted with shotgun or low pressure rifle frames.  I don't recall the years off the top of my head.  You can determine the year of manufacture by the alpha prefix to the serial number.  See the FAQs also for this.

I just got a thought....how'd you find out it was SB2??.....if engraved on the barrel, it has nothing at all to do with the frame.

Very true on what Pete said. The first thing I did when I got my 7mm-08 was to take apart and check for matching three numbers on the barrel with the last three of the serial and to ensure it was an SB2. (This was new in the box from my local pawn shop, so of course it checked out. But boy if it didn't....)

Pete, I purchased the rifle new a couple months ago. It shows sb2 frame on box.  The s/n pre fix is NT.  It is the stainless barrel/receiver model.

You can put anything but the big USH barrels on it.
