:-D Not verry happy but this is what my bullet dose when it hits the board holes are elongated but if it hit dirt it is a long continuse trench, all info: shooting a pedersoli 45/120 quigley with pp 500 cast and I have tried 110 gr pryodex sp and 777 2f 95 gr same results what's up? can anyone help (by the way the papper is onion skin from dixy. they are just down the road.) :eek: forgot to mention I was using a bees wax and jojoba oil cookie 1/8" and a over and under card wad cut from a shotshell box

What is the diameter of the bullet before and after patching? How hard is the bulllet? Is there eveidence of the patch being torn away before the bullet leaves the barrel? Are you crimping the bullet (generally a bad idea), cleaning any sizing lube off of the bullet before patchiing, lubing after patching? How far down the bullet are you placing the patch?
as a general guide, for smokeless loads, your prepatched bullet should be around 0.452", BP less, around 0.449 or so. Give us some more details.

first led is hard wheel weights with added annamonie 1lb to 10 lbs of wheel weights then bullet is .452 befor patch found last night 2 raps was not enoughf 3 raps makes .458 but can't get it in the case? :? the barrel sluged at .458 so that is what I am trying for but what's up and I do lube with spg or a 2to1 bees wax and jojoaba oil same as cookies could not find any patch except what is over bace aprox 1/8" and finding wads with some cookie still intact but no patch ,and patch is 1" and just over where the bullet starts to taper that should be all info if you need more I'll try thanks

Two things grab my attention. I'd try a softer bullet. Just eough tin to get the lead to flow in the mould, maybe a 1:20 or even 1:40. It may be the hard alloy isn't obturating. That should also solve having to use three wraps on your patch. A softer bullet with two wraps will bump up to seal the barrel. Another thing, try shortening the patch to just over the ogive.

thank you for your reply I will try but the patch is just under the oglve but I may try to re alloy some led what I am using now is what I use for my cowboy loads and I shoot bp in them with a grease cookie same as in the sharps the cookie alows me to shoot a hole match and not have to stop to clean kinda cool now I have to get it right have a long range (what they call long 200yds) friday and sat and sun cowboy shooting all day :-D all short guns loads down pat just need to get the big one right sholder brused now trying to get it right :lol: sooner or later I wil have it down pat :twisted:

:-D well diden't get it in time for the match but I did get it it was the led now at 130 yards (my back yard) I can get it in a 6" just geting started now loaded 25 persision loads to see what it will do 100 gr 777 1 card,1 1/8 cookie and a card on top straight cut papper 2 raps maby if it dose not rain tomarow I'll go to 150 thats all I can get out of my yard. Thanks for the help by the way I did shoot at the match but not the long range shot fronteer cartrige it was a 2 day match in memphis cowboy shooting I was 1st in class 15 overall 54 shooters thanks again Y Not

There are so many varibles inall this but here are some thoughts:
Go get some real black powder goex or Swiss 1f or 1 1/2 f.
Use bullets that are bore diameter AFTER patching. Load so that about half of the patch is up in the rifling. Goex likes a lot of compression .125"-.400"
Swiss likes 0.00-.125"
Make a blow tube and blow 3-5 long slow breaths thru the barrel after each shot.
The patches must be uniform on the bullet straight and at the same location.
Use wads between the bullet and lube cookie and between the lube cookie and powder. I have had good luck with Walters .010" wads
Use a cookie at least .125" thick.
I don't know how much yaw you are getting but often the long heavy bullets will show this at under 200 yards. It takes them a ways to get evened out.
You might have an over length chamber I did on a pedersoli in 45-70 the chamber measured 2.165" leaving a ring in fromt of the case for the bullet to obturate into. This can cause problems for the patch then to swage down to throat diameter then down to bore and groove diameter. I over came the problem by custom making cases from longer basic brass.
If you are leaving a tail on your bullets after patching cut the tail off. It can damage the bullet base. I made a cookie cutter type tool to remove mine.

:grin:I did some shooting totay using 2 diffrent typs of brass rcbs and dixy and they shoot diffrent the dixy shoots right 10" but 4 shots 1" and the rcbs shoot center but 2" the rcbs shells are almost 1/8" shorter but it was short range 150 yards I will be joining a club that has a 600yd range soon I will be able to strech out to 1/2 what it is capabel of ,soon will see thanks for info :twisted:
