BDL to ADL Conversion... difficult?
« on: January 17, 2010, 11:19:32 AM »
I am thinking of taking my 700 Mtn. LSS and making it even lighter with a new stock.
Most any of the lightweight stocks that are cut for mountain (slim taper) barrels are of ADL configuration, I guess to save weight with no bottom metal. ?

I am wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with this conversion, and what parts I will need?

I know I need a new trigger guard, and maybe just a magazine spring/follower...?

any experience with B&C ultralight mountain rifle stock?

Thanks in advance,
tdn

PS- if there are directions or previous posts on this, just point me to the link. No need to be redundant. Thanks

You will need ADL Magazine box,Spring,Follower,Trigger guard ,Rem ADL screw kit ( stanard length or extra long) I get the extra long cut to length that Brownells sells.   I've done the conversion BDL to ADL also ADL to BDL with other stocks not sure B&C even makes that stock anymore you might want to call Stocky's.  Well good luck

It's easy to make the change only thing is make sure the guard screw are right length I've always got a new follower that way if I want I can sell the BDL as complete.

Or, has anyone done a bottom metal cut-out on an ADL Bell and Carlson stock?

I have just inherited a 30-06 ADL and I think I want to convert it to BDL (hinged floor plate) for unloading purposes. I know I will at least have to purchase a BDL stock and all the "magazine" parts as well as the floor plate. I am just wondering if it is worthwhile to do this as the only advantage would be in unloading. Any thoughts?

I have a few Remingtons in the ADL format.  My difficulty is not unloading, but loading.  When unloading, just push the cartridge forward with the bolt but only about half way to the chamber, then extract the cartridge.  Not a problem at all.

Loading is a problem if the cartridges get skewed in the magazine and you can't dump them and start over.
