I guess it really depends on your hunting situation. That said, even if your average shot is 400 yards away, a 20x magnification for shooting a whitetail deer out of a .30-06 does seem a bit much. You might want to consider something in the 4x-16x range at most.
I own a couple of Burris Black Diamond scopes. I also own many other brands - Leupold Vari-X and the newer VX-IIIs, Bushnell Elite 3200s and 4200s, Nikons - both Monarchs and pre-Monarchs, Nightforce NXS, Zeiss Conquest, and others that I can't recall right now. That said, I am not a fan of Burris. My two favorite scopes are Nikon Monarchs and Bushnell Elite 4200s and the Zeiss Conquest.
