Pressurized water system

Many years ago (around 1973 or 4) there was an article or letter in Organic Gardening where this family didn't want to use a hydraulic ram to get water to their home into a cistern.  Their solution was to buy a U.S. Navy, high pressure bilge pump to pump the water from the spring into a large, captive air pressure tank.  What I remember is that it took someone 5 or ten minutes of exercise in the morning to pump it up for running water all day.  I don't have that issue (or that magazine) any more of course, but does anyone else remember it or have access to the article?  They gave the specs on the pump, and that is what I am really wanting.

I'm not familiar with the article, but if you need to know specs for an application, it can be calculated: The height of the column of water will be 2.31 lbs per foot rise in elevation, plus whatever pressure in the tank for a minimum. As to the suction end, any pump will only draw from a depth of 32 feet max, so it pays to keep the pump down near the water level as much as possible.
