New guy to the Cannon and Mortar board
« on: January 19, 2010, 04:34:45 PM »
I have been following this board for some time and only recently joined.  All of this is very interesting and the work you guys are doing is fabulous.  I am particularly interested in golf ball mortars and hope to turn one soon.  I am retired Army, 23 years, Field Artillery, 8" SP, 155mm SP and Towed and a little 4.2" mortar.  Shot plenty of big stuff, but now these golf ball calibers look like a hoot.

Many thanks to all who safely promote this hobby.  Hope to be posting some progress pics soon.

Hitting the target is a matter of training, hitting the impact area is a matter of safety.

Bob -

WELCOME to the board!  You'll provide another perspective - which I, having gone through FAOCS - respect highly.  Looking forward to your pix of smoke and flame!

Welcome!

Golball mortars are a "must have" item, everyone needs at least one.

They are also a good turning project since their relatively short length makes them easy to bore in just about any lathe.

Good to have you aboard, Bob!
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Contrary to the previous propoganda .......not everyone loves or needs a ..." Dirty Little Pot "  Haggis boiler.............but then if you were sane you wouldn't be here !  So welcome aboard........and I hope your mortar affliction can be cured by being exposed to some Real cannons.

 "Haggis Boiler"

Why, I'll have you know that no haggis has EVER touched one of my mortars!

Well, okay, there have been chitlins...

Pay no attention to him xo18thfa, as we say here in the swamp: "That boy ain't right!"

Everyone needs a golfball mortar.  ;D
