I am trying to contact some people over at Minox for more info.
So far I have gotten this:
Night Vision Device in Pocket Format - The new MINOX NV mini II
MINOX has long made a name for itself as a manufacturer of multifunctional measuring optical equipment and binoculars. The optics specialists from Wetzlar are now presenting another reliable and extremely compact companion for all outdoor activities – the MINOX NV mini II – one of the smallest night vision devices in the world and barely larger than a lipstick. Whether for orientation purposes on land or out at sea, for hunting or protecting property: the MINOX NV mini II ensures silent and discrete observation at night and even in twilight.
Night vision devices are needed when even the most powerful binoculars with a high twilight factor reach their optical limits. They amplify the available residual light such as light frequencies from the brightness of stars or horizon radiation that are not perceived by the human eye. The multicoated lens system provides a brilliant and clear image of the object pointed to. The optical system also provides a 2 x magnification. If the available light is not sufficient for providing a visible image, even when amplified, the new MINOX NV mini II has a built in infrared illuminator. This additional light source that is not perceived by the human eye enables perfect vision in complete darkness – in the forest, for example, or on a moonless night.
With its ultra-compact dimensions of just 1.3” W x 1.6” H x 4.2” L and a minimal weight of just 6.34 ounces the MINOX NV mini II can be used anywhere. The ergonomic design with partial rubber armoring of the body enables a silent and safe handling and makes this night-vision device the perfect companion for all outdoor activities at night.
The scope of delivery of the MINOX NV mini II includes a wrist strap and battery.
