deer,elk and black bear hunter i need your input's

 for christmas this year .the wife got me a T/C encore 209 50cal endeavor ;D ;D and i'm wanting my first barrel to be one that i can feel confortable about it taking  deer ,elk,and black bear (with proper bullet placement ). i now hunt with and have for years  a rem.700 in 308 cal.using 165 gr barnes triple shock. what do y'all think would be good..30-06.....300 win.mag-/or?????????????

I'd go with the 30-06.  I have it for my encore and that is the reason i bought that caliber.  You can't beat it.  Personally I believe it is the best caliber on the market if you want versatility.

guess i could use the smokepole barrel ::) never thought of that. guess that barrel enters hunters minds during muzzleloading season. would be fun to hunt everything with the 50 cal. anyone  on here use BP rifles only to hunt with? and what would be the farthest distance  that anyone has taken either deer bear or elk with the 50 cal.. bookoo's of questions for y'all and just gettin' started  ;D  y'all have a great day ,,,and a better day tomorrow

Since you have a 700 in 308, get a 308 barrel for your new encore, it will simplify things.

I tend to agree with Cheesehead, go for a .308 and keep logistics simplified.

A plus is that that .50 frontstuffer barrel will be a danged good game getter fer deer 'n such out to 150 yards...mebbe 200.

I'd agree with the 308 sugestion unless you just want something else. If you want to try something beside 30caliber the 280 is a good deer round or my favorite the 25/06. Either will make you happy.  ;D

Use the front stuffer. Thats all I hunt with now, a front stuffer. Of course I don't hunt elk but have a friend who has shot several with his 50cal front stuffer.
since you have a 308 you might want to try a 7MM08 the 308's baby sister.

 ;D  Since you have a .308, I would of course go with a .300. but in that style rifle it might be a handful, I am mainly a bolt action fan...

Stick with the 308, depending on the load it's only 300-600 fps slower than an 30-06

maybe 200 fps slower , the 300 win mag will get you 400 fps faster

If you go with the 300 win mag and find it a hand ful Mag Na Port it. That reduced the recoil in mine down to a 243 level  plus the noise isn't blasted back in your face like a lot of brakes.

  I agee with Wyo. Coyote Hunter  get the 300 mag.You have the 308 it will match the 30-06. With elk and bear it gives a little leg up. It may never be needed but its there.

Yea, the only way you would gain anything over the 308 with the 30-06 would be to use heavy bullets.  If you decide with the 30-06 I would suggest going with the heavy stuff.  180 grain +++

i don't got anything agenst all the other guys that are saying go with getting a 308, but my thought is why duplicate. if you got one you don't need another of the same caliber. just my $0.2.
