Do you happen to know what is going on with CCI rimfire ammo?
« on: December 06, 2009, 02:05:22 PM »
I use a lot of CCI Standard Velocity .22LR for target shooting and have noticed that it is out of stock practically everywhere via mail order. Do you happen to know why CCI ammo is unavailable? The problem for CCI is that I'm using other ammos I now like better and don't cost that much more, so I may never go back to CCI.

My son-in-law bought a few 100 packs last night for $7.00 each at the Local Wally World.

I recently picked up two cases, one of STD 035 and another of 037 short target. My dealer got them from Jerrys sport centers.

What shocks me more is the price increase!!

Thanks for the info. It's good to know it's available. Last time I bought it, CCI standard Velocity was about $5.50 for a box of 100 when buying by the case. Maybe less, it's been a while. This time I'm just ordering a couple of thousand for now and I'll see what happens with availability and price.

Ammo has been in short supply since ELECTION night November 2008! :o  Everybody's been hoarding to beat the band!!

I was in Wally World last night and got excited, 20 boxes of Federal Bulk Pack in the case!  I found a guy to open the case...No key!  The only key that opens the case was taken home by the last sports clerk! :(  He'll be in at 7:00 AM! :(  I went back after work this evening...NONE LEFT! :(  Now I know to check in on Wed! LOL!

Ammo is still in VERY short supply around here.
And what can be found costs 3 times as much as it did last year.
box of decent high powered rifle ammo will set you back almost 50 bucks.
around my neck of the woods and you can forget finding any smaller
centerfire handgun rounds. .25,32,380 not to be found.

For once I did something right, and bought 10,000 rounds a couple cartons at a time over the last few years.  I should never need more.

I have been hearing rimfire ammo or possibly just Federal ammo is going to be going UP 17% after the first of the year! :(

10K rounds, that's all you have stocked!  :o  You'd better get to the store! ;)  I'd personally like to have 10x that amount stocked before I feel like I'm "ok."  ;D

10,000 is a good start.
I'm gonna buy it until they stop selling it. 8)

I was in Tri-State, located in Moscow, Idaho a week or so ago.

Moscow is about 45min drive from where Speer/CCI/Blazer is manufactured.

Tri-State had more .22s on the shelf then I had seen for awhile, so I ask about limits and was told, " all you can carry plus one."

They did say they would stop anyone from cleaning them out, but other then that, no problem except the higher prices.

In short, the supplies are easing in this area, and I would expect other areas to follow before long.

Hope the prices will come down a bit as supplies ease, but probably not.

This time, I hope all those crying about "hording" during this latest "shortage" get their act together and stock up.

The hand writing has been on the wall all along and should have come as no surprise to anyone.

If they don't lay in a goodly supply as ammo again becomes available, like last time, it is no ones fault but their own.

Keep em coming!

Local stores have varying policies, including the different Wally World's from a limit of 1 brick/box of the same ammo, up to no limits.  I've been checking all the best places rather haphazardly, but need to start checking regularly and picking ammo up when I find it.

Rimfire ammo seems to be coming up in supply a bit, but the buyers are still cleaning out the "good deals" quickly, such as Fed 550 Bulk Packs at $15.47...I wish I had bought tens of thouasands at $8 and $9, shoot, even at $10...It would have been a 50% return on my investment! :o

I have a good many of the Fed. bulk packs, but have been less than pleased with the performance.  They will not feed, (hollow points), in my Rem. mod. 12 pump.  They give lackluster performance in my bolt, (very dirty), and won't cycle in my semi's.

I've got some old rem. stuff, (25-30yrs.) that still does fine.

Would like to come upon a deal on CCI.

Hope things ease up.  Our town was totally out for a while. And we don't connect with any road system to go to another town. Now one store has some CCI Seconds std vel. 200 rounds for $19! The stuff goes bang but doesn't always work my Ruger MKII in the cold.

And I think they got a shipment of Federal Bulk, 250 rounds?? for $36!

I keep a good supply, and I'm glad that 2 yrs ago I bought several bricks for $12 ea when the store was clearing inventory and before they heard about the coming ammo shortage.

But that new price on the Federals really scares me.
I sure wish things would settle down.

Morn'in Dand,

Hang in there!

As I indicated a couple posts ago, the supply is starting to look better around here, except for as you mention, the price.

I was looking at the new Cabela's shooting catalog yesterday, and noted the $30.00 + prices for a thousand primers.

I figure gone forever are the days of 7 - 8 dollar per thousand primers and 4 dollar a pound powder, but then short though it may still seem to be, my pay check is a lot bigger now then then.

I made comment to the wife that I hoped prices would come down on primers, and as stocks increase I expect they will to at least some degree.

What we may see, as with many other products, is the price will stay high and we will see "sales" from time to time as stocks/inventories get high.

If that happens, I at least will need to change my buying habits, buying when the price is right rather then expecting to always see stable and realitively reasonable prices when I go to buy components.

However, I intend to do as I have done in years past, keep at least a carton of 1000 on hand of each type I use.  Meaning I may have a just opened carton from which I am using, but there will be at least one fresh and unopened carton backing it up.

I will also as oppertunity presents itself, maintain or increase my supply of other ammo and/or components AND do so EVEN IF PRICES DO NOT MODERATE, as long as I can afford to do so.

I can understand those who go through many thousands of rounds per year, possibly having to scramble to find components during this obomanation, but for most of those who were crying foul/hording because they did not have the foresight to buy and maintain a reasonable supply beforehand, TUFF!

Just because they like to live hand to mouth didn't make them right and the smart people wrong.  It just showed who was smart and who wasn't.

It is indeed good to again see cases of CCI .22s on the rack at my local store, and I hope it will soon be that way for you and everyone else!

But with the present obamanation we are all faced with, I expect the goal for at least the "smart" ones among us will be to maintain if not increase supplies, which in turn isn't going to help the prices all that soon.

One other aspect which will factor in is, some shops at least, were riding high this past year, selling everything they could get in the door, and at good prices.

Well, now people have stocked up and aren't buying as much or anything which is really hurting the retailers.  Retailers bought and ordered everything they could - at high prices - find to meet the demand and now demand is slacking off and they are left with stock for which there is little demand. OUCH!

One small shop in our area may be forced to close the doors because of this situation. Not good for any of us!!

Keep em coming!
