6.5X55 and 129gr Hornady
« on: October 30, 2003, 03:44:23 PM »
Anybody worked up a good load with this combination?  Why did I buy this box of bullets?  I did it on impulse I guess.  The tried and true 140 grain is hard to beat.  I'm trying to figure out why this bullet was needed.  The only thing I can figure is that it might kick less.  Anyway, I'm stuck with them and looking for a good load.  In all my reloading books only Lee has loading data for this round.  I don't have the Hornady book.  Thanks.

You will find the 129 gr Hornady to be an excellent bullet.  I have used them for years in a 6.5x280 with excellent accuracy.  I also use them in a M38 Swede over 50 gr of H4831SC.  They run right at 2825 fps and shoot into MOA (I only have a 2X scope on the M38).  I have not killed any deer with them out of the M38 yet but I have killed several with the 6.5x280.  Never noticed any difference between them and the 140s, both are deadly.
