I guess of all the rifles that I've owned, it's probably the 30-30 Winchester in my 26 inch rifle.  I say that, then realize that what was my constant companion for years was a Winchester Trapper in 44 mag, out of which I fired hundreds, if not thousands, of Lyman 429215 bullets.  I've still got both, and now I'm thinking that I could really develop a fondness for a Rossi 92 Trapper in 357 that I just acquired.  We'll see come springtime, when I can spend some time at the range.  Right now you pretty much need snowshoes to walk out the door here, and it's still coming down.  The Gorebots here in Vermont must not have sent in their daily-weekly-monthly contributions to Al Gore and his global warming fund.

I'd have to say I was a big fan of 25 cals for a while as my first rifle was a 303/25 (303 Brit necked down to .257....a popular Aussie wildcat).
I've also got a nice little sporterised Martini Cadet in 25-20.
And I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't like a nice original Ruger Model 77 with the tang safety in 257 Roberts.
But I bought a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 9.3x62 about 18 months back and my passion for 25s has wained.
My love affair with 9.3 cal was confirmed when I took 4 goats with it last hunting trip.
Off the bench it isn't real kind but in the field you don't even feel the kick.
I think the only other love affair I'm going to have is with a nice 7x57 of some description, preferably a CRF bolt gun or perhaps a Ruger No1.
I bought a 450/400 NE 3" and it's fun but is too big to be a regular shooter (I know, like 9.3mm isn't!) and I reckon real love affairs are founded in cartridges you can use on almost anything.
That's what I really love about the '62.
Use the right ammo and place your shot and there is probably nothing on earth that will not drop.
Alternatively you could just as easily use it to thump foxes although the pelts would be a little ruined.
I know the same could be said for 375 H&H or even 338 Win but I reckon the 9.3x62 has an old world charm about it and let's face it, would you REALLY want to use an H&H on a small predator?  :-\

308, 260, 243.....the 08 case family! I also like the 223, have a savage bolt and a RRA AR.

All of them group within 1 in at 100yds. Always wanted to try a 243 AI, I heard it has a longer throat life and more speed, like it's really needed.

In terms of rifles, it depends upon the day.   :)

In terms of calibers, really only one:  30-cal (American measurement, not European  ;) )

In terms of cartridge, I've only ever had one favorite:  The .30-06 Springfield

There are others I like or have liked before.  Some I like a very great deal (like the 25 WSSM, for example).  But my favorite is my favorite, even if there are substitutions that would do essentially as well.

I used to read the lyman manual for hours at a time, reading the little history paragraphs of each cartridge, and wondering why each was designed the way it was.  I imagined myself going through the thought process of cartridge development, experiencing the hopes and expectations of its inventor, and wondering just how each might feel under recall.

I can't say that I have any favorites, just a super long list of, "Man I wonder what that one shoots like?"

You name it I have shot it. I worked part time in a sporting goods store and I offered a service where I would sight rifles in for customers for $5.00 a rifle plus ammo. I became a very good shooter, and got to shoot so many I can't remember. Plus I kept all the brass. Great part time job as I loved to shoot. At 72 I still own more rifles and pistols than many, but not as many as some. Shooting is great fun, and the more you do it the better you get. I use to laugh at the fellow who laid down his money for a 30-30 and the owner would tell them he will bore sight it  and it will be on at 100 yards, I bet there were many missed deer. When the owner wasn't around I would tell them the truth. Lou
