Les,the one I carry a lot is a model 34 kit gun by S&W, made before they sold out to Clinton. A blued  6 shot on the square butt J frame with adj sights and 4 inch barrel. If I'm not carring it then it is a 2nd generation Colt Woodsman sport model with 4 inch barrel. Have never owned a Ruger bearcat.

Les :  I have a S&W model 422 auto not expensive dont think it is made anymore but its lightweight and accurate, I enjoy having it around much more than the ruger mark11 due to weight, of course on special occasions I allow myself the luxery of carring the colt diamondback but only on that special rare walk to go nowhere in particular. :D   JIM

My choice would be a Ruger 22/45.  With the plastic frame it is really light.  Mine has a target barrel but it is too light for serious target work.

The Bearcat would be a good choice also.

Stay away from the cheap little autos if you can but they are better than a stick.

Another idea is the North American Arms mini revolvers.  They fit into your front pants pocket.  I had one for a few years and sometimes forgot I even had it with me.  Their Black Widow is even better.  The downside is that you have to remove the cylinder to load them.  They are quality guns though.

By the way, I traded mine for my 22/45.  It is not as easy to carry but aside from that everything else is better.

Just my thoughts,
Sixgun
You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.

If I were looking at something for pocket cary I would look at the NAA series of 5 shot revolvers. They don't fit all of your critera but they sure are neat littlt guns and you'll never even know its in your pocket. The one i've shot shoots well up to about 10 yards. Plenty good for snakes and such.

Other than that I would go with a smith and wesson 317. But they are a little pricey.

Guys,
Does Tarurs make a light weight 22 revolver with a 4" barrel? I once owned a 4" Hi Standard "Sentinel" that was darned near perfect for a 22 woods gun. Sadly I let it slip away.

My vote is for the Ruger Bearcat.  Lightwt, handy, perfect for woods walking!  I also have an old Charter Pathfinder with the 3" bbl.  Picked it up for $125, shoots great and fits all the holsters made for 3" J framed smiths.  You can often find these for a song at the gun shows.  One I wish I had back is an aluminum frame Colt Scout.  Light and handy, mine was a great shooter but I had a stupid attack and sold it.

My vote would be for a Smith 63 or 34. Hard to beat the older Smiths for qualityand accuracy.
