Contender Carbine: .30-30 recoil?

Hello,

Has anyone shot the 5.4 pound Contender with a 23"  G2 .30-30 barrel?  What would you equate the recoil/muzzle blast to?

It shoots about like a 243, maybe a tad more with a heavy bullet.  But, if you shoot a lighter one, it is quite pleasant.

I have a 23" Bullberry barrel in 30-30AI on one of my G-2 frames that my 10 yr old grandson shoots 30-30's out of for deer hunting. I set it up with a youth stock for him. It has very little recoil and not bad muzzle noise with 125gr BT reloads in it.
The 30-30AI has a little more recoil & more muzzle blast. He'll be ready for that in a couple of years.

5.4lbs.?? That sounds a little light.

I have a SS setup w/ Blk Syn.
Had my barrel cut down to 16.25" and it makes a great light weight 150yd gun.
I did that w/ all my calibers in Contenders.
When I took it to the range to test my loads the guy next to me thoght I was sighting in a Cricket until he heard it. With my muffs on I just smiled.
It doesn't buck too bad, lot less then my '06, little more then 7.62x39.
Shot 150gr Noslers and 110gr Speer SP(M1 Carbine).
When it absolutely needs to be there, reload

Mine was more like 6.4lbs than 5.4lbs.  Before the scope which was 12oz or 3/4'th pound plus steel rings for aother 1/4lb, so about 7.4lbs scoped.

Felt recoil verys by different shooters the 30-30AI  with 125 serrias I think is about like a 243

Do you have a wood stock or a small bore?  Is it a .30-30?

Now I'm starting to wonder if the G2 is that much handier than an Encore...

My .35 Remington 16 1/4" barrel on the G2 frame, wood stock, Weaver K3 (steel tube) scope and 5 rounds of ammo in a buttstock holder weighs in at 6 lb., 1 1/2 oz.  It does not recoil too bad with factory ammo.  I weighed it in a older Contender frame with a plastic stock at around 5 1/4 lb., but haven't shot it in that configuration since I picked up the plastic stock last week.  Stick with the Contender unless you really need a larger caliber, or just like trying different guns.

I have a 21 inch contender barrel up for sale.  You could find out for yourself.   :D

yes it did have the walnut, and it was a 30-30 23" barrel, very accurate. It is still a good pound to pound and a half lighter than the encore, a little "whippy" on target, but carries well in the hand.
