I just got back from the iroquois county huting area.

My first time hunting over dogs.

Wow! We limited out in less than an hour.

The other guys just went to run their dogs and gave me all the birds so I've got some cleaning to do.

I'm going back Wednesday, dogless though, with a freind and we'll see what we can do.

I think it's called the Iroquois hunting preserve but I'm not sure. It's a state park though, not private. You have to check in in the morning and they assign a parking area to you and you get ready and wait there. When it's time to go in the woods a truck drives down the road and honks its horn.

Not sure about the number of people but we went on Sunday and there were only about 30 people in line. But that was second weekend of shotgun so it might have been light. The guys I went with said during the week, there are a lot less people there.

Not sure again about the rules. Limit is two birds. You can't shoot anything else even though the seasons are open, just pheasants.

That is fairly easy on pen raised chickens. If they are native wild birds that is real good.

Hunting with dogs is great and we have had some good ones. The Phesant is great and when you get into the Quail it is even better.

I was pleasantly suprised to see a wild phesant slip by on an edge during the deer season. It was low in the stubble and in a hurry like something was after it (nothing followed). It never did crow which used to be common anytime of the day. Used to be great hunting here (for wild) but is now almost non-existant. Causes IMO are the fence row to fence row tilling practices which have destroyed a lot of habitat. Those birds would get into the thickets in the past but it became common to see carcasses along with Coyote tracks in those areas.
