encore pro-hunter 22-250 ammo advice needed..

I recently scored a new-in-box (ok, plastic..), 28 inch fluted pro-hunter barrel in 22-250 for $175.00 out the door! Now, I am going to install this on my encore in place of my 209x50 barrel and am asking input on what off-the-shelf ammo choices this barrel likes? I plan on mostly varmint shooting only.

My 24" 22-250 barrel shoots the 45gr winchester and remington HP loads really well.  I've been shootin gthe remington 50gr JHP lately.   The biggest thing I have found with my 22-250 barrel is it likes to be floated on a pair of orings or rubber washers.  Made it shoot much better.  Actually all of my barrels shoot better off the orings.

Mine shoots awesome with Hornady factory loads, both the 50 and 55 grain V-Max bullets.  I have the blued 26" heavy barrel on my Pro-Hunter.  I think any of the factory loads will be good, you just have to play with some different ones until you are happy.  Enjoy it....that's half the fun to setting up your Encore with a new barrel.

I just picked up 80 rounds of this, so maybe it'll do well for me. I hope to be set up with an RCBS reloader in the coming weeks to enable me to play around with hand loads too.

Anyone else out there got info?

Yes, have lots of info if you reload.  Don't shoot any factory stuff myself.  I shoot way too much to buy factory ammo.  Mine likes everything I tried so far.  Same loads that shoot great in my 700 Sendero also shoot MOA in my Encore.  I wish my other two barrels shot as well out of the box as my 22-250 barrel does.  Might try tuning some loads to the Encore when it warms up to tighten them up a little more but for what I am planning on using mine for it might not be worth the trouble.  I agree with the floating of the barrel too.  I use a forearm that I bought when VVCG was in business and buy a hangar bar from Steve Stratton when I get a new barrel.
